Let me update my WV post, since I was home for Mother's Day this weekend
Obama couldn't get votes there if he had Owen Schmitt as his running mate. There is pretty much open hostility to him at this point.

Oh well...onto Oregon.

21. Watch the exit polls
when they ask the Hillary voters who they think will win the nomination. It'll be an ungodly high percentage.

30. suffolk poll from yesterday--Question: Who will win in November?
31% Hillary
27% Obama
26% McCain

"West Virginia Democratic voters appeared to be in denial about the delegate projections. Asked who would be the next president, regardless of whom they personally supported, 31 percent said Clinton; 27 percent, Obama; 26 percent, McCain; and 11 percent were undecided."

14. So they're the "scared white folks"demographic?
Bush got those by dropping the Gay/Terrorism bomb. McCain will get them that way too.

16. And that makes it a red state?
Dem governor. Dem Senators. Dem Reps. Dem control of the legislature. Voted for Clinton twice. Voted for Dukakis.

How are we a red state again? Did the world begin in 2000?

This red state/blue state stuff is so meaningless.

19. that 'huge difference' doesn't really exist
When you view a political situation through your own eyes, it becomes distorted. I think maybe our view of the candidate we support influences the feedback we get when we're talking to people on the street. It also heavily influences what bits of information we choose to prioritize, and what we choose to ignore.

The only way to really get an idea of what's going on is to try to analyze numbers and info in a way that is totally impartial. It's not near as much as assuming a win because you overheard three guys in a gas station, or because your guy did well in a primary, but it saves a lot of heartbreak on election day.

I'm loathe to make broad brush statements, but with folks in this article being so ignorant, I'm frankly of mind to say "screw 'em".

makes my brain hurt: “I want someone who is a full-blooded American as president.”

What do they teach in schools there? Are they that ignorant that they don't know that Hawaii is out 50th state?

My guess is, "Full-blooded American means 'White Christian without a weird name.'"

The "Obama is a Muslim" thing is believe far and wide in WV, I fear.

Dumb question: Who is Owen Schmitt? I've never heard that name.

P.S. In what area were you canvassing? I would imagine there's be a lot of hostility in the rural areas. But in Charleston where I live, there is a fair amount of support for Obama.

15. I'd like to see Obama start performing better in rural areas
Harry Reid was on This Week this morning and discussed how Kerry carried the big cities by massive margins but got crushed in the rural areas and that's why he lost. Obama can't fall victim to the same trap.

20. Hit 'em where we shouldn't be--
going into purple, and evenl "red" areas can peel off enough of them to flip a state--I hope Obama's folks are doing their county-by-county analysis now.

I read your other post - it was great, very thoughtful. But open hostility? I have my ideas on it, but I don't live there, and have never visited, so I defer to you. But hostility goes beyond even what I thought.
