CNN Has Declared War On The Kerry Campaign...
They are still pimping the Gall(o)p Poll but now it's even worse for Kerry after yesterday's polling....

They did not report that five or six current polls contradict it....

They want to be like Fox but given a choice people will always choose the real thing rather than a pale imitator....

At least Fox doesn't "really" pretend to be fair...

I hope Fox continues to kick their ass in the ratings....

3. There's No Link
Yesterday he he had a lead among "registered" voters now they are tied at 48%....

It doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out they are using their poll to shape the race to favor Bush....

9. I hope the ABC poll shows Kerry with a nice lead
I will say Kerry didn't get the level of coverage prior Dems did because the networks severely limited what they showed, but I'm certain he's at least ahead by a small margin.

15. Among Likely Voters Gall(o)p Has Bush Up 51-47
Gall(o)p gets misplaced props cuz they have been around forever.....

Cadillac has been around forever too... But if I have $40,000,00 to spend on a car I'm going to buy a Lexus, Infiniti, or Acura; all of whom have been around a fraction of the time
Cadillac has.....

It's not the gold standard in my book......

2. Reporting Gallup results isn't unfair journalism
How is reporting the results of the Gallup poll unfair?

1. The poll is CNN/Gallup - since they sponsored it, they're going to report it.
2. Whether we like their results or not, Gallup is a respected polling organization.
3. From what I hear of the methodology, it's more accurate in measuring the bounce than the Newsweek poll that many of us have been quoting.

The poll itself might be unfair (Gallup's polls do supposedly slant GOP)- but reporting it isn't.

Just my op of course.

4. The problem is their methodology in choosing likely voters
Their polling of registered voters is actually more in line with other polls. Their polls of LVs have shown way too much fluctuation, even when they had Kerry ahead by a lot. I think we need to learn why there's such a disparity in their samples of RVs and LVs.

7. It's Contradicted By Four Or Five Current Polls.....

It's the only current poll out of a handful that has Bush tied.....

6. Their Job Is To Report The News...
It's not just the Newsweek poll that contradicts it. It's contradicted by the ARG poll, the CBS poll, the Zogby poll, and the soon to be released ABC-Washington Post poll....

When you're in a march and everbody is ahead of you you're usually the one who's out of step....

F--k Gall(o)p... They are clowns... Some other DUer linked it.... They had Bush leading Gore 52% -39% on 11-27-00 while Zogby had it 45% -43% in favor of Gore...

If you believe Gore moved fourteen percentage points in the last seven days of Election 00 I have a bridge to sell you....

8. The argument with the Newsweek Poll
Was that it undercountd Kerry's bump, not overcountd it, because it included numbers from the day before his speech. Just taking the results from the day after the speech, Kerry was ahead by 13 points.

10. You're So Right....
Do a google search....

Gallup was even criticized by other pollsters for their wild swings during 2000....

FOR THE LOVE OF GOD THEY HAD BUSH LEADING GORE BY THIRTEEN PERCENTAGE POINTS ON 11-27-2000....

The fact that Gallup has been around for ever is of no consequence......

I'm not in awe of Gallup because they have been polling for seventy, eighty years.....

Cadillac has been around ten times as long as Lexus and Lexus builds a better car by every conceivable objective measurement....

11. Methodology

The accuracy of their methodology tends not to show up until the day of or day before the election itself.

Wherever you heard that it was more accurate in measuring the boost of the convention had no clue about polling methods. Polls based on "likely voters" tend to be very erratic.

17. Dean-bashing, distorting poll results, non-stop whoring
I just had the misfortune to dine at a restaurant that had CNN on. They repeatedly cite the "no bounce" mantra without acknowledging that this is only one poll, not the final truth. They say Dean has created controversy but it is they who are trying to milk controversy out of Dean's comment.

I got rid of satellite 3 years ago so the only threat I can make is to refuse to watch CNN even at someone else's house. Not very threatening, huh? But what CAN be done about their outrageous tilt? I'm hating them more than Fox because at least at FNC the idiots believe what they are saying. At CNN they are just whores.

18. Wasn't the Gallup poll mostly a weekend poll? In 2000 there was a bump
for Bush every weekend which would fade and sometimes reverse during the week. It was driving everyone crazy until someone figured out that the people who answered polls on weekends were somewhat more likely to be Bush voters. Go figure.

22. People who answer the polls are not the demographic
the pollsters rely on.

Your analysis is faulty.

I'm not a statistician so I'm not going to go into the details, but this "the only people who answer the phone on week-ends are republicans" is nonsense.

The pollsters have a well-defined demographic model that they "fill." If you've ever been polled, you'll know that they ask certain questions regarding age, gender, marital status, job status, etc., depending on the kind of survey. I've been polled MANY times, and sometimes they get to a point where they say, "Okay, well, thanks for your time, but we already have enough respondents in that category." And they don't go any further.

Sometimes, they will continue to ask the questions even though they've got enough in your category, but they don't use your answers.

When they have enough answers from their pre-defined sample, they calculate the results.

The results are not based just on whoever happens to answer the phone or be willing to answer questions when the pollster calls.

There are enough other ways to skew a poll and they are very good at using those other ways. No pollster who based her/his sampling just on whoever happened to be home or answer the phone would be in the business very long at all. They have their demographics so carefully refined that they only need a very small number of just the right folks to get a very accurate result.

23. You Are Mostly Correct
with cellphones, answering machines, voice mail and people who just don't like to poll a pollster can make one hundred calls to get a valid reponse....

All that being said I smell a rat with the Gallup poll...
