"Lost years"? They really are incompetent.

I keep reading that Republicans plan to highlight Kerry's "lost years" in the Senate -- you know, the Senate that voters in Massachusetts kept returning him to.

How in holy hell do they think this will NOT make people think of Bush's life up to the time he took the pledge, not to mention the still unresolved AWOL question? LOST YEARS? Are they nuts?

Their cluelessness is what gives me hope.

3. This is part of their 'Beat em to the punch' strategery

They take whatever Bush and Cheney's worst points are and accuse the opposition of exactly those things. They think they can own the phrases and language of attack by doing this. It is akin to Rush using the abhorrant term "femi-nazi" When you go back at them, it looks more like you are just calling them the same names. It wouldn't work at all if they didn't control the media.

"lost years" suggests the classic film "The Lost Weekend" about alcoholism. It also of course suggests Bush's first 40 years (more actually if you have seen the wedding video).

In psychology they call this phenomenon "leveling." It usually occurs among children who feel poorly about themselves. they bully others with exactly the points on which they feel they are weakest.

Kerry is busting open arms and drug dealing, before that putting away the second biggest crime boss in New England, then turns his attention to vet's health care and POW/MIA's, and they want to draw attention to that?? And expose themselves to the obviously pathetic comparisons? This really is going to be fun. You've got it nailed.
