Reuters/Jim Young

And, get this, the entire population of Bowling Green, Ohio, is only 29,636!

3. From the blog
North Main Street in Bowling Green Ohio was transformed into a Kerry-Edwards rally this afternoon. The 17,000 people who came out for the event cheered at a deafening volume for John Glenn, Elizabeth Edwards, John Edwards and John Kerry while committing to make Ohio a blue state in the fall.

4. Can Anyone Give Me A Sense of Gore in 2000 in Ohio
This looks amazing - how does this compare with rally turnouts in 2000?

24. Put it this way. Kerry's crowds are bigger than Clinton's crowds in 92
and those were huge. Kerry's going to win in November with a MANDATE TO GOVERN.

5. Wow!
:wow: That is one huge crowd. And best of all, no one had to sign a loyalty oath.

People yearn for real leadership and it is Kerry's time to lead.

11. And this is in a city and county that is predominantly Republican.
The southern suburbs of Toledo, which are located in Wood County are predominantly Republican. The counties surrounding Wood County (with the exception of inner Lucas County (Toledo) to the north are predominantly Republican. And you can't say that the college students contributed to the attendance because fall semester has not yet started at Bowling Green State University.

I was unable to attend. What was the message of Kerry's and Edwards' addresses. How well were they received? Was there any Bush bashing? Were there any Bush supporters on hand to disrupt the event?

12. Welcome, Bullshot! I wasn't able to attend either but
my son and his friend went. I've emailed him asking for an update. We live in Wood County and you're right about this being a Repub area! I am seeing more Kerry bumper stickers and yard signs, though.

13. Wonderful anecdote on rally from johnkerry.com blog from JB in Ohio...
Just returned home from the Bowling Green rally. Keep in mind folks that when you hear the crowd size of 17,000 this is a Republican part of the state !!!!!!!

Kerry/Edwards will win Ohio!

Kerry was given a lucky buckeye during the primaries. He told us today that when he is President that lucky buckeye will sit on his desk in the White House. The crowd went wild!

22. Yes, there were Bush
supporters there. My DH and I got into it with several of them. Apparently the Hitler youth can't wait to be drafted, that's what they said anyway. Asked some anti-choicers how they can be pro-life and pro-war at the same time. They had no answer for me. It was the usual collection of red-faced, screaming, mouth-breathers.

Yes, you are right, BG is repuke, home of that asshole Delbert Latta.

15. You watch.
If and when Bush comes back to NW Ohio it will be one of his closed, credentials-only rallies where only pre-screened supporters are allowed, making it look like he has unanimous support in this area.

16. Amazing pic
Will the media ever cover this story of the huge crowds at the rallies? CNN just keeps showing Bush talking over and over and over about Kerry raising taxes, but never shows Kerry's phenomenal crowds.

17. Then it's even more amazing that so many people come.
I mean, if CNN tells us all to hate Kerry, then if so many people still come it just proves that people aren't falling for the media line.

Good news all 'round.

18. In true Fox fashion,
The Fox News affiliate in Toledo took a remark made by Kerry at Bowling Green in which he refused to show favoritism between rivals Bowling Green State University and the University of Toledo, but he gave a plug to Ohio State. The Fox reporter comes back and asks how Kerry is going to explain this remark when he's campaigning in Michigan. Also, they showed some small group of Bush supporters holding placards along the road. The two spokespersons in the story tried to make the case that "Bush is doing a good job." No specifics.

Then, the Toledo CBS affiliate's tease for their 11:00 report talks about a Bowling Green downtown businessman who's upset that the rally was held there.

23. The Toledo media
..overstated the presence of the Bush-tards at the rally. The crowd was overwhelming.

19. Beautiful Picture - But not the one in my Globe this morning
When I opened my Globe this morning, and the Reuters photo accompanying the rally was a picture of "John Kerry jumping over a ditch as he left the rally in Bowling Green" I kid you not.

I was able to send them a link to this Reuters photo with a question about why they used the other one.

They had access to the photo I posted, yet they chose to publish the "ditch" photo.

Their bias and pettiness is showing, as usual.

21. I was there,
but left before the rally because of extremely poor planning on the part of the organizers. I'm not surprised that there were that many people there, it was packed.

26. The organizers of these rallies really need to
Edited on Mon Aug-02-04 12:54 PM by daisygirl
get a grip on the fact that *tons* of people are going to show up. The Zanesville rally was really packed, too - they expected 5000 but I read today at johnkerry.com that 12,000-17,000 showed up, and they were trying to fit us all into three blocks on Main St.
