Have we discounted John Edwards as a VP?
I've never been a big fan of this idea, until I started giving it more thought. Edwards is almost an obvious choice. He has passionate supporters nationwide. He's been vetted. He has a lot of respect with rural white voters which <gasp> is what people (Hillary) seem to think is Obama achillies heal. What is the consensus on this?

1. It wouldn't be the worst choice, but I doubt it will happen given JE's reluctance to endorse
I'd like to see Edwards as AG anyway.

11. I love John Edwards. However, I don't think he'd want a 2nd shot at the 2nd place on the
ticket. Of course, opinion mine alone ! I think it's obvious now, at least to me, that he hasn't officially endorsed because Elizabeth supports Hillary. He would be good with the rural vote, tho ! :hi:

Not least because Edwards himself has no desire for it.

16. How about a military guy who was against the IWR?
That would be a point for Wes Clark.

Edwards is going to be Attorney General.

4. I like Edwards, but he's the wrong choice for Obama's VP
A lot of people think Obama does not have enough experience, and Edwards doesn't have a lot of experience in government either. Just 1 six-year Senate term. He did not do much for Kerry as VP. I like him for AG, but not VP. And he has said flat out that he's not interested in the VP slot.

5. Bad karma using the same guy as VP nominee twice in a row
Besides, he didnt bring Kerry any southern support in 04, so I cant see the point.

17. The fact remains, you MAY have to have a VP you can send into Ohio and PA and help with the rural
voters that Obama MIGHT have a problem connecting with.

better than Hillary, but there are still other who tap this constituency better than Edwards or Hillary.

18. Senators & former Senators have trouble explaining voting record nueances
in sound bite size statements. Look to governors for VP. Executive experience to balance Obama's style leadership, no difficult to explain compromises on votes.

Edwards for AG. He has shown he has the sand to take on criminal corporations. We need that like never before in this country. He could restore the rule of law of, by, and for the PEOPLE

Schweitzer for VP. Brian has the sand to stand up to cheney/bush and get MT's guard choppers back in Montana and he did what we asked: he stood his ground against DHS on the Real Id FUBAR. He laughed when DHS gave MT an 'extension' to comply. Told them he didn't ask for any extension, but they could call it what ever they wanted to. He would not comply.

He is a soils scientist, worked in Arabia making things grow and learning why America is not served by dependency on the House of Saud. Advocates alternative energies, works well with others.

He would be a terrific VP. Practical and charismatic.

My second choice would be Clark.

25. Yes.
John Edwards is politically dead. Do we need to review his losses?

He lost the nomination in 2004.

He lost the general in 2004.

He lost the nomination in 2008.

He didn't carry NC in 2004, he won't help in 2008.

He has nothing that Obama doesn't already have.

He's a fine and decent man, but he's an election loser.

...I'd say he shouldn't be "discounted."

Now, does he want it? Not sure about that.

29. I think he would be an extremely bad choice.
He really has no qualifications at all, and Obama will need someone who can shore him up, especially in areas of national security. He does not and did not have enough passionate supporters to get anywhere in the primary, and therefore not enought to substantially effect the general election. He was a mistake as running mate last time, and would be disastrous this time.

32. I'd hire the man for just about anything, and I hope he will be on
a very short list of options for President Obama for Labor, Health&HumanSvcs., or AG.

I'd like to see him in as influential a role in domestic justice as possible.
