I am a Hard-working White Person and I support Barack Obama.
Edited on Fri May-09-08 02:55 PM by FlyingSquirrel
Anyone else?

-----

Edit: And no, I don't have a college degree. And I don't drink lattes. I'm a bus driver.

(I used to have a mocha or two each week but I don't really think that made me more elite).

13. I have surprisingly little debt. (knock on wood)
My wife and I are both very frugal. We live waaaaaay below our means. And our kids don't know any differently, so it all works out well. But like they say, life is what happens after you make plans.

23. I had no debt until 2002.
The school district I drove a school bus for decided to oust my Union contractor and go with a non-Union shop. Shortly thereafter, I met someone and got married (using credit cards, mainly, to finance what was a bare-bones wedding but still cost a lot. Plus the ring.) From there on it just started escalating (but we didn't go all crazy buying expensive furniture or anything like that.)

We're finally starting to pay it down some, but the only way for me to REALLY pay it down is to work the extra board - which means 12 hours over a 14-hour period, possibly longer. I just can't do that much anymore.

I blame corporatism for this. The push for lower wages, weaker benefits, and allowing usurious credit card rates (they started low enough, but quickly got jacked up to the point where it is extremely hard to really pay it down).

25. Credit cards will kill you.
My whole family has bought into my philosophy, which is "debt builds debt, and wealth builds wealth." We have one card with a $100K limit (because they keep raising it on me) but it gets paid off every month. But it's real easy for a credit card to get away from you if everyone isn't on the same page. I hope you're able to get that thing down to a manageable balance. Good luck!

24. Got a college degree but I drink Folgers not latte
My degree is in physics but I have worked as a programmer or engineer all my adult life. I'm a pretty nuts and bolts kinda guy, really. Work 50-60 hours a week routinely. Southern guy. Motor head. Likes NASCAR. Owns guns. Clinging to them pretty tight right now! Drinks beer. Will be very pleased to vote for Barack Obama in November of this year.

Clinton finally lost me completely yesterday. I have a multi-racial stepson. He just came into my office to give me a random hug and demonstrate his newest Tae Kwon Do form. Heading off to his first competition next week end. The kid rocks. Absolutely rocks. Every time I look at him and think of Hillary's latest, my blood boils. All along, I have said she wasn't my favorite but that I would vote for her without hesitation. Now I am not so sure. I may have to vote for her to vote against McCain, whose election would spell disaster for America, but I am pretty sure I would have to bathe immediately afterwards.

She has finally gone way too far. It would be hard for her to earn my respect again. (I never quite trusted her, but I did respect her and believed her intentions good ... until now.)

So, yeah man, I'm with ya. Guess we're elitists to the core, eh?

Two years at the CC, white, working woman, never drank a latte, etc. but I have had a cappucino, does that count?

35. So am I
And I am sick of hearing people say that just because we didn't vote for Hillary, we are not party of the hard working white class! I have been working since I was a kid, served my country during the Vietnam war in the Army, came back home and worked for $2.50 an hour in the orchards, worked my way up to become a manager, then after an injury I went back to school, college, at the age of 46, and got myself an AA degree. I now own my own business, and my wife and I work pretty much 7 days a week! I drink folgers coffee, own a ford focus and a doge van, have a chevy truck to plow snow with, and have never gone to Starbucks in my life!

The county I live in voted for Obama, just like every other county in Washington state, it it's a rural county far from the big cities. Obama can and has gotten the votes of the "working class whites" to say otherwise is simply another lie!

Do have college education though, but that and the price of a latte doesn't get one very far in today's economy. There are more ditch diggers, laborers, mechanics, truck drivers, retail clerks and janitors with college degrees than ever before.

Is there a special category for us educated, working-class stiffs with low-paying jobs? Maybe we are the Bubba Elite.
