McCain Advisor Accuses Obama of Underhanded Reference to McCain's Age
ABC News' Ron Claiborne Reports: The McCain campaign lashed out at Sen. Barack Obama, D-Illinois, for what it called an insulting dig at Sen. John McCain's age.

In an interview on CNN, Obama accused McCain of trying to "smear" him by saying that the Palestinian militant group Hamas favored his candidacy.

"And so for him to toss out comments like that I think is an example of him losing his bearings as he pursues this nomination," Obama said.

The McCain campaign said the "losing his bearings" comment was an underhanded reference to the fact that McCain is 71 years old.

Mark Salter, one of the advisers, said, "Obama's attack today: He used the words 'losing his bearings' intentionally, a not particularly clever way of raising John McCain's age as an issue. This is typical of the Obama style of campaigning."

"That quote is a not-so-subtle attempt by Obama to insinuate the age issue into the race," another McCain adviser said. " He attacks viciously with subtlety and innuendo. Nobody suggested he supports Hamas. We have said the North American spokesman (for Hamas) has talked about how wonderful it would be if he were president of the United States."

Obama campaign spokesman Bill Burton denied that Obama was alluding to McCain's age.

"Clearly losing one's bearings has no relation to age," Burton said in an e-mailed statement.

"Given this bizarre rant that Mark Salter just sent out, it's clear why a candidate offering a third term of George Bush's disastrous economic policies and failed strategy in Iraq would want to distract and attack."

2. One of the funniest bs responses ever
Anyone who wants to accuse the Obama campaign of being thin-skinned about racial overtones, or Clinton about sensitivity to sexism, fuggedaboudit! These idiots just trumped every paranoid whine anyone ever made.

And since I am confident that was nowhere on Obama's radar screen when he made the remark, THEY can now take credit for having raised concerns over grandpa's age. America, take note: he's a doddering old fool who repeats sound bites but tends to mix them up. Your do NOT want to put the Oval Office in this man's hands. The cabal that ran the country into the ground under simpleton george and smiling ronnie will have free rein.

9. Exactly. Plus, no one needs to mention his age, just look and listen to him.
Well, they opened the door. Dumb asses.

3. Obama gets smeared because he has the ability to broker peace with Hamas
But it is wrong to point out mCcAIN needs an extra five minutes to put on his Depends before he answers the red phone at 3:00 am.

Watch this (continue) to be the tactics the Republicans use for the rest of the year.

Republican attacks - Its all good!
Democratic attacks - Personal foul! These comments will not be allowed.

It is not often reported but Senator mCcain was born before the compass was invented...

5. The particular use of the word "bearings"
actually is much more clever than some people think.

McCain was a Navy pilot...any Navy man understands the need to maintain one's bearings! I believe the McCain folks are a bit sensitive the issue of age, dontcha think?!

8. Speaking of losing his bearings...
...Senator mCcain has lost a few of his marbles along the way too! I think Senator Obama was being nice in his response to Senator mCcain.

(Anyone remember when we could cheat at marbles by using 'steelies'-(marble sized or slightly larger bearings)?

18. oh, my oversized steelie was my pride and joy!
I used to encourage my little sister to spend her allowance on marbles so I could win them all from her (and then go lose them all at school - couldn't use the steelie)

10. That's foolish. It's not like his age is a big secret.
The guy looks like a doddering, old, rest home occupant when he shuffles around in his baseball cap and sunglasses. He should be on his way to basket making class.

11. Nope. Not gonna work.
When McCain comes out and says something as ridiculous as "Hamas supports Obama," he can't turn around and whine about Obama fighting back by playing the victim card. Just wait for "Osama supports Barack HUSSEIN Obama." It's coming, folks.

13. Pass the popcorn, this is going to be fun
to watch. Obama has an incredible way of making a dig without it sounding like an in your face comment. It's only afterwards that you get the jokes on you.
