Hillary's southern Oregon visit a bust
She's running over two hours late, still a a no-show. They rented a much smaller venue that Obama did and it's half full. Her supporters were removing seats so the 1,200 seat arena wouldn't look empty. Her race will end in Oregon and tonight she should understand that.

1. And she expects Obama to pay off the debt she continues to accrue?
I'm calling bullshit on that.

Thanks for the report. :)

7. I'm not donating to Obama until that issue is settled
I don't want my hard-earned dollars going to pay of her campaign debt. Hence, I'll wait to see how this is resolved, and donate to him AFTER a decision is made, and/or he formally pays off her debt.

He said this is our campaign and I plan to hold him to it.
This isn't your grannie's politics anymore, and I firmly believe an entreaty to him from his donor base will be heard loud and clear.

25. How did this story get started? I missed it.
Is the Obama campaign actually considering it? Or is that just speculation?

15. Especially in Jackson County, supposedly one of her "strongholds"
supposedly all the "hard-working white people" there are her "base".

Between this and her reception in DC today, it's not looking too good for Hillary; but at least
it's looking better for the Democratic party, having this race over asap.

I live & vote in Oregon, and we may put her over the top if enough more Supers weigh in for Obama
between now and May 20.

So, could be quite a bit less than 600. Pathetic.

9. Article title: Supporters acknowledge Clinton faces long odds in race
text:

May 08, 2008

Democratic presidential contender Hillary Clinton didn't fill the Olsrud Arena tonight at the Jackson County Exposition Park in Central Point as the New York senator struggled to keep her campaign alive.

With little more than half of the 1,200-capacity-arena occupied, campaign organizers removed seats as Clinton supporters waited for her arrival for a town hall meeting.

Kelly Mowrer, 48, of Eagle Point said the odds are against Clinton after the latest primary results, but she plans to vote for her anyway.

"I think she's a very smart woman," said Mowrer. "I think Obama's going to win."

Colleen Horner said she hasn't made up her mind and wanted to see Clinton in person.

"Whoever wins I want to win in November," she said.

But it was nice of her to stop in and say hi anyway.

I hope she enjoys her stay in Oregon .

I feel kinda sorry for her these daze, she needs a break, as in a serious vacation.

22. Sort of can't trust the polling in OR cuz we use exclusively mail-in ballots
and they've been out for over a week now. Just mailed mine in today. So, the effect of the IN and NC primary results is somewhat muted here.

14. Another short story from Oregon tonight .....
Some chairs folding up before New York senator shows up
Posted by Matthew Preusch, The Oregonian May 08, 2008 19:47PM

A bad sign: Shortly after 7 p.m., workers started removing some folding chairs from the block of 400 or so set up in the center of the arena where Sen. Hillary Clinton is scheduled to speak tonight in Central Point.

Fire hazard? Fear of empty seats showing up in news photos and television coverage?

There's no word from the New York senator's campaign yet.

But with an hour to go before the start time and 50 chairs already pulled, about 100 were still left empty. Also, only half of the metal bleachers on either side had any people in them.

19. I find
the idea of Jackson county being a Clinton stronghold strange. When I lived there, it was a very Republican area, and what Democrats there were, were mostly around Ashland, a VERY liberal area; much more likely to be Obama supporters.

27. Californians...
Liberal Californians brought it on, transplanted democracy. Eugene and its liberal community, all formed by the hippie flood out of San Francisco in 1971. Many of those idealists settled there as well as Grants Pass and even Roseburg.
Ashland has had a significant GBLT community for at least 30 years and Cave Junction was/is a hotbed of off the grid homesteading communities.

44. You are
bringing back a lot of memories. I have lived in Ashland three different times in my life, and adore it. Unfortunately, all those Californians also brought California prices with them, so I can no longer afford to.

I used to be a fixture at Cook's, the gay bar that was there forever. It is gone now unfortunately, but I understand there is a new one. I'm visiting in August, so I'll be checking it out.
