Also, Frank Rich had a column in the NYT couple weeks ago where he mentioned in PA, 215,000 Republicans (PA was closed primary & independents couldn't vote) spent time & gas money to vote for Ron Paul, Mike Huckabee, etc. in a primary that meant nothing for Republicans...

So though some Clinton supporters may not vote for Obama (assuming he's the nominee), some Republicans definitely aren't voting for McCain..

"Considering that Huckabee, Paul, and Romney have formally dropped out of the race, the fact that about 25% of the Republicans weren't willing to vote for the person who is surely their nominee means that for the all the problems the Democrats are having, McCain still has not united his own party behind him"...

1. Don't believe it
It's a safe protest vote. They can use this vote to make certain McCain notices how unhappy they are with him. Don't think for a second they won't line up behind him in the GE when it counts.

2. No way
They will rally around McCain for the GE. They may protest now, but the GOP walks in lock step.

3. It does indicate some problems for McCain
Yes, they will vote for him. But remember that these Republican primary voters are a measure of their activist base. They had nothing but downticket races to vote on, and they lodged a protest at the top of the ticket.

The question is, will they donate money, canvass, call and do all the other things they will need to do to get out McCain's base? I'm thinking not so much. Yes, McCain's pro-life, and has announced he likes Roberts, Scalia and Thomas, but there's little there to appeal to freaky-ass fundamentalists.
