I really think that all new people would be the best bet in how Obama has set him self up and I also would like to see all the old gangs gone. Or a good many of them any how. Times are changing and we need new people in DC. New thinking.

41. HRC's high disapproval ratings (47-8%) the last 17 years have been all white.
Edited on Tue May-06-08 08:07 PM by Divernan
The Clintons enjoyed tremendous support from the black community until the past 6 months or so.
It is reasonable to argue that no discernible portion of that 47% of Americans who have strongly hated her for most of the past two decades were African Americans. Therefore, if you were only polling whites on HRC's "highly disapprove" ratings, the numbers would climb closer to 60-65%. So adding her to the ticket in the VP slot would guarantee that "Obama can't get whites." Which has been Clinton's overall motivation since January.

82. I'm a 41 year old white feminist and I sure don't support Hillary -
Ms. "Stand by your man" and "I could've stayed home and baked cookies" has insulted more women than she has helped. Barack needs a moderate white male, ideally with military experience. The outgoing president has the lowest approval rating in history - do you really think people want to stay on that course? Barack needs to keep up the good work and calm some of the rural voters with a moderate white VP - but it shouldn't be Hillary. She will scare away other people, like true moderates.

27. You faux leftists are hilarious, considering you don't even realize Obama is the DLC dream candidate
Obama has DLC written all over him. He just isn't a card carrying member.

Ford predicted the DLC will play a major role in the issues debate that unfolds in the 2008 Democratic presidential primary process. The group will not side with any one candidate, he said, even though the organization has close ties to a number of potential nominees, from Vilsack to Sens. Hillary Rodham Clinton (N.Y.) and Joe Biden (Del.) to Gov. Bill Richardson (N.M.). Even Sen. Barack Obama (Ill.) has expressed interest in "finding ways he could work with the DLC," according to Ford. (Ford describes Obama as a "personal friend" and says they talk regularly.)

http://blog.washingtonpost.com/thefix/2007/01/fords_next_move.html

From a year ago:

DailyKos straw poll shows shows Kossacks prefer John Edwards 37% to Obama’s 27% with Wesley Clark a distant third at 14% (the Blogometer has checked these numbers at 6K, 13K ,and 16K votes and there has been no change in the %s). Netroots ambivalence towards Obama’s candidacy seems to stem from two related sources: 1) his perceived centrist/Liebermanesque/DLC rhetoric; 2) and his inability/refusal to lead take the lead on a major progressive issue (especially the war).

http://hotlineblog.nationaljournal.com/archives/2007/01/obama_wire_the.html

The DLC doesn’t necessarily pre-select candidates, but they do keep an eye out for possibilities. Obama has been on their watch-list for some time. Now that they see his sex appeal, they may rally behind him. He could be Hillary without the polarizing effect, a real possibility to hold the office.

http://pieceofmind.wordpress.com/2007/01/18/obama-lieberman-and-the-dlc/

Add to that his DLC campaign theme of "reaching out to Republicans" and it doesn't take long to see who the real DLC candidate is if you're willing to read between the lines.

It would be a disservice to all the Dem women (52% of the party's base) who supported her to ask her to make such a move.

87. On the other hand. . .
if she's willing, it might be the only way to keep some of those 50% of Clinton primary voters who say they'll go with McCain over Obama if he's the Dem. nominee.

No other V-P nominee can do that. Any male at this point--even a strong Hillary supporter like Wesley Clark--would just be an additional slap in the face, emphasizing the "second class status" of women in our political life. A woman who'd been in the Obama camp since early on would just be viewed as an intended sop to the party's female base--what could be more cynical?

And if Obama picks a male to run with him, and McCain had the good sense to choose a moderate Repub. woman co-candidate (granted, there aren't many of them in the Repub. camp, but perhaps, say, Susan Collins) it'd be all over for the Obama campaign. Not that I expect him to do this, no doubt McCain will follow the conventional wisdom that he needs to shore up his Right-Wing-crazy credentials.

Now I know the word is that the disgruntled Clinton voters will come around by November. Based on some whom I know, I'm not so sure. Best case is--some will; some won't. But do Dems really want to take a chance that even 1/3 of them will stay away?

And as for demeaning. SEVEN of the seventeen 20th-century Presidents had formely served as VPs. There's no sure route to the U.S. Presidency, but just these figures hint that being VP is probably a more likely way to get there than most. Certainly more likely than being a Dem. nominee who lost a previous run for President. Republican politicians sometimes get a second chance at it; Dems don't. I'd hope Barack is cognizant of this fact and wants to do everything possible to maximize his voter base.

Putting her on the ticket will guarantee a GE win. He's not stupid (that's why he's winning). Offering her the slot will make him look magnanimous in victory, help us deliver FL/OH/PA, and put him in the White House.

As much as he'd like to pick someone else, he won't cut his nose to spite his face.

50. I noticed that just watching a few minutes of the 24hour propaganda...
networks, they were talking that up. I think that is just the last ditch effort for the elite to have some control and input in the white house. I would be afraid for Obama if she were his Vice president because the corrupt would certainly knee cap him. America wants change so he shouldn't have anything to do with Clinton!

53. Why would she want to?
Wouldn't she be more comfortable as Veep for McCain. After all she said McCain had the experience and all Obama had was a speech.

where they could make prompt use of Cheney's office and separate lines of communication.

65. Times like these...
...you wish she would have remained a Democrat and stopped cowtowing to the Republicans. I had so much respect for Hillary before these primaries, but all of that has pretty much gone out of the door.

77. I agree..
the bridge was burned. There's far too many other, more compatible, stronger choices for him to make. Besides that, he is going to mop the floor with John McCain, with or WITHOUT the racist vote. Period. People are hurting, and the Republicans are shaking in their boots, and pretending to be happy about McCain and the prospect of an Obama matchup but it's all pretend, they don't believe in showing fear, it would ruin their "image". This past week in Louisiana scared the crap out of them and they KNOW it. The bums are being thrown out, thanks to their war, torture, economy, and gas prices. They've broken everything they've breathed on, and their "chickens are coming home to roost."

88. asking for sex acts to be performed on you is against the rules:

4. Content: Do not post messages that are inflammatory, extreme, divisive, incoherent, or otherwise inappropriate. Do not engage in anti-social, disruptive, or trolling behavior. Do not post broad-brush, bigoted statements. The moderators and administrators work very hard to enforce some minimal standards regarding what content is appropriate. But please remember that this is a large and diverse community that includes a broad range of opinion. People who are easily offended, or who are not accustomed to having their opinions (including deeply personal convictions) challenged may not feel entirely comfortable here. A thick skin is necessary to participate on this or any other discussion forum."

That's the rule broken. Anyone interested can cut and paste that into their alert.

anyway - too high negatives. No help for the ticket. And Bill around saying weird things.

NO, thanks.
