Hillary is on CNN right now claiming
Edited on Mon May-05-08 09:33 AM by mrone2
that she started from way behind in IN and NC, and that Obama has been claiming that he would win both States by huge margins for some time now. I heard her mention this last night as well.

I have been trying to verify that this is in fact a "true" statement but have been unsuccessful in finding any indication that Obama indeed said he would win both by "huge margins", but possibly I am not crafting the search components correctly. So far I have only been able to verify that he has said he is the underdog in IN. What's that truth here? Can anyone provide me with a factual link that reliably quotes Obama as saying he would win both IN and NC with "huge margins"? I'd like to know if this is true, or if it's just a fabricated statement from Hillary.

Except for one outlier poll taken a long time ago.

3. I haven't seen any quotes or heard Obama say that.
Hillary is trying anything to make her close wins or close losses look like victory. It would be interesting to see if there are such quotes but I am inclined to believe there are not.

4. Hillary STARTED way ahead of EVERYBODY in both states until Obama overtook her in NC
by the end of March.

Typical Bush-Clinton perception management tactic.

nothing she says can be believed. Obama has NEVER said that he would win anything by huge margins prior to the contest.

7. Obama has said the IN would be the tie-breaker
Russert asked him about this on MTP. He rarely claims he will win anywhere by big margins. He has a little more humility. She wouldn't know humility if it smacked her in the face. I'm tired of her.

25. In my original post
I stated exactly what she said...that Obama has been predicting wins by huge margins in both IN and NC for some time now. From best I can gather, that is just factually untrue. If you can link me to a competent source that proves what she said is true I'd like to see it. The intent of my original post was to see if I could come up with verification of her statement, as the statement from Hillary was unchallenged by the CNN interviewer and so I thought quite possibly that he had said it and I just missed it.

12. It's in indication that she won't drop out after losses in either or both states.
And if the Super-D's gravitate to Obama based on the results, Hillary surrogates will have a reason to cry foul.

This is becoming so predictible.

13. She's probably going by the thing that was reported on Politico the other day...
Where supposedly got a hold of some projections from the Obama campaign. The campaign has stated that it was not intended for release and the article was representing only the first of several scenarios.

according to that scenario, the Obama campaign projected a 53-46 win in Indiana and a 53-45 win in NC.

-snip

Bloomberg News's Catherine Dodge and Alex Tanzi reported yesterday that they'd gotten their hands on a detailed Obama campaign spreadsheet projecting the results of the rest of the state contests, which was released "inadvertently" by the campaign.

They've generously shared the underlying document (.xls), which is really worth a detailed look — though the campaign notes the spreadsheet contains several scenarios, and this one just happens to be the first.

-snip

http://www.politico.com/blogs/bensmith/0208/Obamas_projections.html

I'm not saying that I agree with it in the least, especially since I'm an Obama supporter, but just wanted to put it out there that that might be where she's getting her idea from...

21. Often times when I use google it does give me links to
threads here on DU, but I was unable to find any bit of information that might substantiate her claim. It still doesn't provide credence for the exact phrase she used, but it probably is sufficient to keep the media from challenging her on the statement, which they did not do...at least on CNN.

She obviously thinks her base of 'older women', blue collar workers and voters with less than a college degree and so stupid that they believe anything and everything out of her mouth. What an insult to good people.

you still think it's fair because it's what politicians do? Not sure I follow you on that logic.

28. The logic is that Hillary has gone from attacking Obama personally
and going after issues that will tear the party apart (FL/MI). No talk of Wright or Ayers.

She stopped baiting him on not debating.

She has changed her tone 180 degrees and is now pandering and spinning. Trying to change expectations is something every candidate does. A more nuanced view will show, I think that Hillary has indeed heard the party and she is now taking the high road with typical "we were behind and we are catching up" rhetoric. I for one applaud her for it. Same with the pandering. Of course we criticize it but it isn't anything that McCain can use in the GE.
