Oregon Statesman endorses Hillary; Obama has not yet shown ability to get things done
But the Editorial Board keeps stumbling on two key questions: What has Obama done, either as an Illinois legislator or a U.S. senator? And will his missteps in speaking lead to destructive missteps in action?

But Hillary Clinton does get things done.

After leaving the White House, she handily won election in New York, where she proved that she's not simply an urban lawmaker. Rural New Yorkers speak highly of Clinton, praising her for paying attention to their parts of the state.

In the Senate, she has achieved influence much greater than one would expect for her seven years on Capitol Hill.

Clinton "gets" the concerns of the middle class that dominates the Mid-Willamette Valley. She was the first candidate to offer Oregon a "compact" of campaign promises on state-specific issues such as restoring county timber payments and giving the state say about siting of liquefied-natural-gas terminals.

Congratulations Hillary! You deserve this!

53. The bigger question is what are the motives for the endorsements
Most republicans I know voted for Hillary as part of operation chaos (Rush's oxy-driven pipe dream). The others were Ron Paul supporters who switched to Obama as a way to bring the troops home the fastest. At least to me, there is quite a bit of difference between those two

3. you should have included all of their endorsements

The Statesman Journal Editorial Board has made the following endorsements for the May 20 election.

These recommendations are only for this election, not the November general election.

FEDERAL

Fifth District: Democrat Kurt Schrader; Republican Kevin Mannix

U.S. Senate: Democrat Jeff Merkley; Republican Gordon Smith

President: Democrat Hillary Clinton; Republican John McCain

31. Has anyone taught Obama the Great Lakes are not in Oregon yet? We don't have to make things up.

You see the problem was that Obama's "Oregon plan" was a hastily cut & paste of what he had issued in Pennsylvania. And sloppy editing left in references to the Great Lakes and Pennsylvania veterans.

Hillary is the one with the real plan and solutions for Oregon -

69. First he hasn't publicly said he'd obliterate 70 million people, but besides that...

Barack Obama has a superior record to Hillary Clinton on confronting lobbyists and special interests.
Barack Obama does not take federal PAC or federal lobbyist funding for his Presidential campaign, while Hillary Clinton does. In fact, Hillary Clinton said, “Lobbyists represent real Americans.”
Barack Obama has released his personal income tax returns much earlier to the public for scrutiny, while Hillary Clinton has only recently and under public pressure to do so.
Barack Obama passed the toughest ethics reform legislation in the U.S. Senate since Watergate, while Hillary has not passed a bill yet of this magnitude.
The majority of Barack Obama’s campaign funding comes from small donors, while the majority of Clinton’s comes from large donors.
Barack Obama was the leader in revealing to the public all of his federal earmark requests, while Hillary Clinton was not.

Experience

Barack Obama has passed more progressive legislation in his lifetime than Hillary Clinton. As an Illinois Senator he passed over 200 of the bills he wrote. These bills include:

A bill that expanded healthcare to over 100,000 people in Illinois.
A bill that set up community health centers to serve underserved populations.
A bill that provided the earned income tax credit to thousands of Illinois families.
A bill that reformed the death penalty that had sent innocent people to death row
A bill that banned gifts and meals from lobbyists.
And much more.

While Hillary Clinton has spent more time in the U.S. Senate, Barack Obama has gotten more substantive legislation that affects the American people passed while he’s been there. Many of Clinton’s bills were about naming post offices and buildings. However, Obama’s legislation includes:

A bill with Senator Richard Lugar which bans the development of nuclear weapons.
A bill that created a public database where average Americans can see how the government is spending their money.
A bill that provided important assistance to address the situation in the Congo.
A bill that Nancy Pelosi calls “one of the toughest ethics reform” bills in this history of the Congress.

IS THIS ENOUGH OR WOULD YOU LIKE MORE?

What has Obama got done? He has created a campaign of competence that has somehow "beguiled and duped" smarter folks than myself to DEFECT from Hillary -- a campaign that has somehow "beguiled and duped" us with its intelligence and well-run, classy, anti-Rovian methods.

"Let the conversation begin"? From that beginning, she has sounded condescending.

But she did co-sponsor the bill banning flag-burning.

When the Bush administration tried to cut the amount that they had promised the victims of 9/11, Hillary addressed Bush personally and in public, calling him out on this betrayal. She fought hard for the people of NY and got the amount promised.

I could name many more instances, but you people are truly brainwashed and do not like facts.

BTW, why don't you check veterans sites to see what she has done for Veterans pay and benefits.

or take a battle to the airwaves when she thought it was tough, like Alito or on ToraBora, or on Iraq, or Downing Street Memos, or whenever another Dem was being smeared?

She would NOT. She only surfaced when started her campaign.

And if the Clintons hadn't spent so much of what influence they did have on supporting and defending Bush they may have had more to use on other Dems and Dem issues.

It makes ME sick that so many of you think it was OK for Clintons to defend and support Bush for so long. It makes ME sick that you want to REWARD their TWO DECADES of cowardly capitulations to BushInc.

His electoral success does nothing to help people other than him and his wife.

1) His Illinois record is a fraud. See Jones, Emil.

2) He was the compromise choice of the law review because he was all things to all people... He played them like he is playing voters across the nation now... Besides, being president of the HLR was only good for Obama.

39. Title is misleading: I thought Kitzhaber had endorsed Clinton.
He's the only true Oregon "statesman" I can think of, off the top of my head.

44. Interesting this excerpt doesn't explain what Hillary "has done"
except winning in NY. Something Obama can say he did in IL. She's been in DC 7 years but they don't say what she has done except "achieved influence." wtf? Sounds like they just wanted to sell a few extra copies.
