Hillary Supporters... Defend the Gas Tax "Holiday" Here......
Edited on Fri May-02-08 11:07 PM by scheming daemons
I truly want to hear the rationale from someone who thinks this is a good idea.

It is a bad idea on so many levels, that it's laughable.

But I want to hear a reasoned explanation as to why you think it's a good idea. Prove to us that Hillary supporters are not "Low-Information Voters".

Make your case.

8. No... you wouldn't... and here's why....

As soon as Hillary's "windfall tax" on the oil companies (in order to replace the funds lost from the gas tax) kicks in, the oil companies will raise their prices accordingly.

The Federal gas tax is 18 cents per gallon.

37. How do you figure?
In order to save $179 you would have to buy 994 gallons of gas. Unless you are driving a hummer with really, really crappy fuel mileage that would mean you are driving over 19000 miles. That is like driving across country 7 times...in three months. Even if the oil companies didn't raise the prices (which they would) you still could not possibly save that much!

3. As an HRC supporter I do not support the gas tax break
But, of course, no one will find a politician who they agree with 100% of the time. I do think it could be useful to low income workers, who drive the furthest to work, and truckers. On the whole, however, it is a politically driven position. Bu we must remember that this is still politics and it is a good "political" position.

9. Hillary's and McSame's Plan will swing Truck and Taxi Drivers to their side!
Must be hundred's of them, all across the nation.

Say they actually save the entire $.18/gallon and everything else stays the same:

The trucker who drives 600 miles in his 10 mpg truck uses 60 gallons/day saves $10.80.

Bingo! Another voter for Clinton. See, it works just like all the Sunni's fighting for Bush in Iraq, now that we're paying them $10.00 a day. It's the wonder of the free enterprise system. Says so right in the Bible.

go up!

Wiping out the benefit of the tax holiday.

31. Reality
Is that even if congress passed it, and they never will, Bush would veto a windfall tax on big oil! She may be able to con people into buying her lies, but reality is there will be no bill this year, period! It's just a cheap trick to fool the voters! Of course there is a sucker born every minute they say!

18. It sounds good in theory. But it's cruel to voters...
Let's say a strapped voter choose Hillary based on this.

Her idea has a snowball's chance in hell of ever getting passed this summer. Democrats are against it. Bush will veto it.

19. Actually... it is VERY BAD in theory.... Economic Theory 101.... the Basics....

Which is why EVERY economist who's been asked has said this is a HORRIBLE idea.

Now... we already knew that McCain doesn't "know much about economics"... he said so himself.

But Hillary is proving to be just as deficient when it comes to understanding how the economic world works.

I know it sounds bad in theory too.

What I meant was it sounds good in theory to voters who aren't aware of such things.

20. I don't support it, but I do understand why she is doing this
Obama voters are upscale suburbanites for whom high gas prices are a mere inconvenience, not a crippling financial blow. The other half of the Obama base is in the big cities where people can take public transportation everywhere, thereby reducing the pinch of the high gas prices.

The Hillary voters are downscale people who perhaps do not live in a major city that would give them access to public transit. Since they are more downscale, they may have older, less fuel efficient cars. Point is, her voters are hurt a lot more by the high gas prices.

And, to boot, I think the "gas holiday" is a moronic idea.

27. A gas tax holiday will not lower their costs! Her plan includes a windfall tax on oil companies...
...and they will pass that cost onto us in the form of higher prices... wiping out the benefits of the gas tax holiday.

...and then... when the holiday ends, the prices will be even higher!

It's bad for HER voters too.....

I'd save a whopping $30 with a gas tax holiday that's if the oil companies don't increase the cost to pay for this windfall tax.

In reality you're not going to save anything.

That's why McCain came up with the idea.

By the way. I live in small town/rural America.

But I'm not a dummy. Hillary and McCain are pandering to their base. Dummies.
