GOP uses Obama to boost Republican candidates
http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20080502/ap_on_el_pr/obama_special_elections

By JIM KUHNHENN, Associated Press Writer

WASHINGTON - Turns out Louisiana and Mississippi weren't quite finished with the Democratic presidential campaign. Sen. Barack Obama won each state's primary earlier this year. But these days his face still appears in television ads in both states, this time from Republicans trying to turn him into a liability for Democrats in two looming special elections for long-held Republican seats.

Democratic victories would be a serious setback for Republicans. But it also would go a long way to reassure nervous Democrats, particularly undecided superdelegates, that Obama would not present a hardship to House or Senate candidates running in tough races.

1. Obama would be a disaster down ticket and he has already cost these 2 Dems in polling

One even had to run an ad distancing himself from Obama.

"since the ads began running, the Democrats' leads have shrunk"

7. Ironic. Maybe you should ask John Edwards how down ticket/prez dynamics work
His electability argument was basically what Clinton's is now, but the red stuff has caused many who used to embrace that logic to now "believe" it is nonsense.

6. Right, she can defend her position against the Iraq by her vote for the Iraq War
followed by her vote for the Kyle/Lieberman ammendment, followed by her statements regarding nuking Iran if they attacked Israel

Why should we reward anyone who voted for the IWR?

The IWR overturned the War Powers Act which allowed Congressional oversight for the executive branch engaging in undeclared wars

Why should someone be rewarded for voting for that resolution, and why should I believe based on her past actions and words that she will get us out of Iraq?

We have been there over 3 years, the country is divided among religious and cultural differences, who don't want us there

It is up to the Iraqiis to determine their destiney, NOT US, and those who voted for the IWR should pay the price for that vote, and NOT be elected to the highest office in our country

17. Because 80% of the public believes the Iraq War was a mistake and should never have been fought?

2. Gee, you forgot to post this- "the fact these 2 seats are competitive is news itself"
Edited on Fri May-02-08 05:42 PM by cryingshame
these are 2 races in deeply conservative areas.

Democratic Party officials and strategists, however, say the Obama links in the Mississippi and Louisiana races are having no effect.

"The fact that these two seats are competitive is news in itself," said Rep. Chris Van Hollen of Maryland, chairman of the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee. "You've got the NRCC and Freedom's Watch spending a boat load to try and defend seats that were just held by Republicans. It shows the mood change throughout the electorate."

3. the post contradicts what's happening
the super delegates declaring for Obama are in states in which they do not want Hillary at the top of the ticket because her negatives are over 50% and she would bring out "anti" votes in droves. In other words, Hillary would hurt those in tough districts.

However, the post does demonstrate that the Republicans already know, tho some here will not acknowledge this, that Obama has won the democratic nomination. They are now turning their advertisements toward smearing the democratic candidate. same as it ever was, for whatever reasons they can think up.

12. Obama is the Kiss of Death for the Dem Party
why he hasn't had the class and common sense to step down is amazing. It would have been a classy move for him to admit that at this time, he isn't a good fit for the Presidency.
