Does anyone else have their tinfoil hats on right now?
Why would anyone at Obama HQ start this Kantor video thing when it is so easily contested? If you leave aside the right or wrong of the claims, the contestability of grainy audio is pretty ridiculously high.

Coming just a few days before the next primary's, I do not trust it. Just long enough to fight over whether it is true, claim to be picked on, but not long enough to really determine where it all came from. I see a lot of parallels between this, and that big thing over Bush and his service records, The truth hidden by a not fully vetted proof, so that as more factual revelations come they can be dismissed by the example of the faulty flap.

So who gains from this? In the short term, Obama, I suppose. For 2-4 hours. Mainly because it distracts from Wright.

But who really gains by this? It may be Hillary, but that is also unlikely. It could be an insulation attempt at the race allegations. If so, I doubt its true efficacy with the AA community. They are not stupid. So again, who Really gains by this? The RW. Yup. They damage Hillary with yet another racial insinuation. Plus my initial take is that the blow back for this particular primary will likely be against Barack(fight over validity of the point will turn into fight over "who started it" which, depending on who they let Yammer on about it, attacks his "above the fray" image), so they damage him in that way.

I woke up about 20 minutes ago, so this is all new to me, but thats my take on the Kantor Video. It really doesn't matter as much what was really said as what will happen with it. Same as with Wright. Context may vindicate, but damage will still be done, and it will all depend on how the MSM spins it. Mores the pity for all of us, in the end.

1. Watch the original "undoctored" version and tell me what you think he said.

17. I'm not a Hillary person. And I openly admit the original version is different than the doctored one
if you hear the doctored one first it will color how you hear the original.

19. I don't care what he said.
Edited on Fri May-02-08 03:53 PM by quakerboy
He is attached to politics, been involved since at least 92 obviously. I am sure he is a prick and says stupid and horrible things. It goes with the territory.

The question is not what he said, but what the MSM will turn the situation into. Will they use it against Clinton? If she wins the nomination, defiantly. Will they try to turn it against Obama? With glee. Will they use it against McCain? When pigs grow talons and invade Arcturus using Giant Peep marshmallow Covered robots.

So who does this help?

Edit for spelling

25. Will it do that, however?
I have my doubts. As I said, my prediction is that by Monday this will be spun into some sort of supposed "attack" by Obama, and blasted as such all over the airwaves right before the voting in NC and IN. But then I am a pessimist about such things.

I hope it will, though. That would take a weight off of my mind and my heart. I'm getting an Obama sticker for my car tomorrow, to replace the rally sign in the back window. Its to slanted, hard to read.

26. Good for you. I have a very nice poster in my living room.
I was a little bit weird about having friends over with it up since this campaign has gotten so nasty, but so far everyone who has come over has been on the same side.

27. Yup.
Its strange, but I do not know a single Hillary supporter. I know a lot of Obama supporters, a few hardcore Kucinichites, and my father the McCain supporter. But I have as yet to meet anyone in real life who supports Hillary.

28. My boss is reconsidering her support right now. And she used to be
hardcore, though never nasty like the people here are. Some of them I doubt support Hillary in real life.

30. Ironically, Wright is responsable for bringing My boss into the fold
He loves Wright now, loved the 2 big speaches this last week. What a nut he is. It wasn't long ago that I had to argue and show him lots of numbers to get him to even consider that there might still be institutional racism in the US. Now Ive got him searching for places we could put Obama signs.

camp clinton is once again being less than honest. They are using the point, that's open to debate, to dismiss the truth (which was the shit comment).

20. Who is you all?
I watch me some KO. Its my keep the mind distracted while I exercise ploy. If I get mad enough at the TV, I don't even notice the discomfort. Other than that, its food channel, science channel, and BBC for me.

For those of us who participate here and at other sites, we don't have to be watching the media to be aware of what the theme of the day is.

21. What are you asking?
be specific. What conclusion? At the time I wrote that there were people here on DU who were accusing the Obama camp of being behind it. As to the contested part, people here on DU were contesting it. I saw both with my own eyes. So what conclusion are you taking issue with?

7. I always have mine on, but why are people pinning this
hoax so readily on the Obama campaign when it could be coming from the McCain camp? Now I don't know why McCain might want to run against Obama instead of Clinton, but he could gain from dissension in our democratic ranks.

9. It's coming from Karl Rove and
John McCain. It's as obvious as the nose on your face. First the Wright stuff to damage Hillary and now this. It's Occum's Razor (I'm pretty sure I'm getting the spelling wrong there).

10. Who said Obama HQ had anything to do with it?
No one except a few misguided posters on this board.

BTW, as long as you are talking about "why would" - Why would anyone take the trouble to edit a video by dubbing in sound that was so inaudible that you can't even make out just what it is he might have been saying? If it was dubbed, wouldn't it have been dubbed so you could hear it clearly?

22. Well, as of this morning, some here at DU.
But look for it on the TV. Someone will say it, its just a matter of time. They want a horse race. They want a contest that weakens the democrats.

As to the BTW. I don't care. He is a political hack. What he said or didn't say in 92 has no effect on my opinion of him or Hillary. Hillary's campaign has brought the race baiting since day one. I don't want them. I didn't want them before that clip. I don't want them now. I just think this is an attempt by someone to muddy the waters. I will be very curious to see if we find out who originated this flap. I doubt it will be anyone with Obama. My predictions are 25% Clinton camp. 30% McCain direct camp. 45% Rove and co.

11. This forum and others on the internet are lousy with RW trolls
lobbing grenades and doing mischief in this primary. They disrupt both campaigns. There are so many posters on this site now that I don't read or respond to for that reason. I used to have an ignore list and may begin using it again because the true trolls are just so obvious.
