Kantor: Are you going to listen to me or your lying ears?
The audio is there and undoctored.

And honestly, the more this gets disputed, the better chance it will last through the weekend news cycle.

3. He just admitted he DID say it, but claims now he was just misinterpreted.
From the MSNBC blog:

*** UPDATE *** Huffington Post quotes Kantor on what he meant by the expletive: "Indiana was not even on our radar screen," he said, "And I was talking about the polling and not the people... If you look at The War Room, this is not the way Carville or George interpreted my statement. This is frankly libelous."

5. He admitted to the "shit--" but he denies he said the slur.
Which is what is being debated.

6. It's not libel if it's what he said. Interpretation in not actionable.

16. Just watch the video
Edited on Sat May-03-08 05:54 AM by Girlieman
His facial expression of contempt for the people of Indiana is pretty obvious. He realizes he's being taped, and he continues with some comments in hushed tones that are unintelligible. I agree with other posts that this doesn't have much to do with the current election. It does show in my view what a bunch of slimy operatives most people in politics really are.

If for nothing else, watch the video to see a younger James Carville with hair!

12. I support Obama (requisite disclaimer)
Pumping this "distraction" goes against the Obama campaign rhetoric. It legitimizes everything and anything the Clinton or McCain supporters want to bring up that have nothing to do with presidency and everything to do with silly "gotcha" moments.

And that's all I have to say about that.

Abso-fucking-lutely on the money. I am also an Obama supporter, and this (along with the "bless us rich people" crap) is brainless bullshit.

15. Doctored or not, the basic fact is that it isn't at all clear what he is saying
That, unfortunately, frees people up to interpret it however they like.

17. I See
Edited on Sat May-03-08 06:03 AM by DemocratSinceBirth
So if somebody sees Mr. X go into his house with his dog and there are no other occupants it's fair to infer that Mr. X took his dog inside to have coitus with her...And it's just as fair to infer that he took his dog into the house because people don't leave their dogs on the street...

You seemed to imply that in an ambiguous situation a person is free to make the most venemous inference...In this instance, Mr. Kantor was accused of calling the people of Indiana "white ni$$ers" and "shit" because what he actually said was inaudible... In my hypothetical instance we really don't know what Mr.X did with his dog when he brought her inside so we can assume the worst which I guess means assuming he had sex with her...

27. This Kantor thing is idiotic
Why are people even making a big deal about it? I am an Obama supporter, and I think that this issue is not only absurd, but can be framed by the media to backfire against Obama. Remember what happened to Dan Rather and the TANG story? The media made the story about the veracity of the memos, and that was enough to discount the entire issue. I see the same thing happening here. And, in any case, why are making a big deal about what some asshole said 15 years ago? I've listened to the clips, and read the different versions, and based on the context, it seems to me that the most plausible thing was that he was referring to the White House shitting based on the Indiana results, and I don't believe that he said anything derogatory about Indiana. Why would he be insulting voters in a state that they were winning that they were expecting to lose? It just doesn't make sense.
