Clark campaign sending 50,000 copies of "American Son" to NH voters...
Gen Clark's appeal was underlined by the $11m (£6m) he raised in the fourth quarter of 2003, putting him second only to the former Vermont governor in the vital "invisible primary" of fundraising. Mr Dean collected $14m in the same period.

But armed with $3.7m of additional matching funds from the federal government, Gen Clark is now able to finance a vigorous campaign well beyond the crucial early contests in Iowa and New Hampshire.

Party strategists believe that after 3 February, when South Carolina and five other states hold primaries, opposition to Mr Dean will crystalise around one candidate.

The Clark campaign is sending a 15-minute video about the general to 50,000 possible primary voters in New Hampshire. It will also be shown on cable channels in the state before the 27 January primary.

9. "Charges dropped"
" Prior to earlier reports, it was revealed today that the Clark campaign actually dropped 50,000 copies of the Howard Dean "I am the only true Democrat" flyer off at police bunco headquarters. Police officials are looking to question the author of said document , and have undertaken an exhaustive search in all farm states for him."

4. The Dem candidates en masse should mail out "Fortunate Son"
to as many voters as possible. That might, just possibly, allow Hatfield to rest in peace.

This video a wonderful way to learn about General Clark from people who have known him at different times in his life. I'm glad they're spending some of the money this way.

12. Great Idea

The video is wonderful, and will really offer a side of Clark that voters may not get because the media is not giving Clark equal time.

14. The video checks anger at the door....and focuses on a very uplifting
message. Which always leads me back to the question: are people wanting to see more anger or do they want to see a message with more of a slant toward healing??

It's the 2004 version of HOPE---without "the man from Hope"

Thank you, Ms Bloodworth and Mr. Thomason!!

16. I was never any good at math...
but, seems to me that, if you include fed matching, Clark actually outraised Dean in the last period. What that means depends on what you're trying to measure. Dean got more funds from more people, showing a more mature organization, but Clark ended up with a little more money in the period, which impresses the press and buys advertising, etc.

Clark is coming on strong. I have to keep reminding myself just how long (not) he's been at this.

Wes will win.

17. but Clark not opting out dooms him after the Dem nomination
because according to FEC rules, he has to sit on his hands for three months after the Dem nomination, and during that time the Bush-Rove campaign can SLAUGHTER him with negative ads, and Clark will have very very little money after the primaries to fight back against Bush's 200 million dollars.

19. Help Me To Understand Why Three Months

"...according to FEC rules, he has to sit on his hands for three months after the Dem nomination..."

DNC convention Boston, July 26-29, 2004.

RNC convention NYC September August 30 to September 2, 2004.

I Count about 30 days, give or take -- how do you get 3 months?

21. Someday it will become
obvious that the reason Dean opted out was to be able to spend more against the Democrats. The theory that the election will be won in the spring, months before the election is quite absurd.

If Clark is the nominee, he can raise funds for the General Election under separate rules from the primary spending cap.
