Poll question: Will the winner of the primaries pick a VP from the losing candidates?
Edited on Sat Jan-03-04 05:01 PM by JVS
I think the last time a primary winner picked a primary loser was when Reagan picked Bush in 1980. I was young then, but I seem to remember that Bush had criticized Reagan for Voodoo Economics. The reason I ask this is that there seems to be a lot of discussion here on which primary loser will be the VP pick, I doubt it will happen. If you know some primary losers who became VP candidates, please share.

So I put to you this poll question: Will the winner of the primaries pick a VP from the losing candidates?

Explanations would be nice too.

5. I suspect Dean/Clark.
If not, then probably Dean/Graham or Dean/Edwards.

18. Graham is a definite possibility
simply because Dean needs intelligence connections. He needs to closely ally with the CIA to get more damaging information against Bush.

10. Odds on favorite has to be Edwards
We need a southern democrat to balance Dean's northern appeal. If not Edwards, who?

3. I honestly don't think so
I think that whoever the nominee is will want to bring some excitement to the ticket by bringing in someone who hasn't been running for president and someone who will take the country by surprise.

9. I'm thinking that it might be electoral pillow talk
comforting the supporters of candidates that are losing with a nice consolation prize. This extends to people making up cabinets consisting of many primary candidates.

12. finally someone makes sense, thanks Imhotep
and this dovetails perfectly with why they have all specifically expressed no interest in the 2nd spot.

8. My guess is that the candidate will pick someone who helps in
California, Florida, or Texas.

13. I've been thinking about --
-- the VP nominee correspondent to the nine announced candidates. Dean might choose so-and-so. Kerry might choose such-and-such. Gephardt might pick this person. Clark might pick that person.

I come up with a lot of good tickets, and I think they'd stand a real good chance of winning back West Virginia and Ohio.

The candidates might want to choose someone they feel would help them the most, but I think it's more likely to be someone other than the eight rivals.

19. i think it depends on who wins what states
if Dennis does infact win Ohio, then his viability as a VP is pretty good actually
