CNN just reported this poll, and I have a question about it
They claimed that regardless of who wins the primary, neither candidate has a better chance (1% difference) to beat McCain.

My question is where do they get their numbers from? Which polling agency do they use or is it their own internal statistics? How can I trace back their claim?

Thanks in advance for any insight.

1. "their own internal statistics"
does that mean they pulled it out of their ass?

'cause that is probably about right...

They follow all the polls and put them together for tracking purposes.

I have no idea where CNN gets their info from.

As a guess...Tony Snow???

5. Grover Norquist emails the results to the MSM daily, along with a
list of daily talking points. Karl Rove pipes in from time to time. Why do you think the right wing and their pundits always have the same message and use the exact same terms?

6. Manufactured issue by MSM...
Polling for the general election in Spring of the same year is meaningless. Dukakis led George Bush I by double digits fresh off his nomination, then collapsed. And we are supposed to believe that one Democrat is "more likely" to beat McCain than another, now?

lapel flag pins. Black Panthers. Reverend Wright. "More likely" to win or not. Stamped out (but at least not in China) issues.

17. They've got it about right. (Which is rare). In the pop vote, both are even w/McCain..
For all of the differences between them, Hillary and Obama's flaws, vulnerabilites, strengths and weaknessess all seem to even out. He's got his critical flaws, as does she. He does better in certain states, and she does better in other states. Both have identical domestic policy records. Both candidates are also serious risks for our party's shot at getting the WH back. Both should have been way ahead of McCain during the entire primary season, and they haven't been.

Hillary is +1 over McCain and Obama is +2 in today's Rasmussen Tracking Poll. It's a wash.

19. This is the "pulling numbers out of thin air"
Edited on Tue Apr-29-08 05:05 PM by TragedyandHope
(or "pulling numbers out of their a**") school of polling.

With the real race so far away and three candidates still in the race, these national General Election polls are meaningless right now.

Once we are down to one candidate per party, the race will shift gears and I expect McCain's numbers to plummet when people see what he really has to offer (nothing).
