Ok, now that Barack Obama has distance himself frorm Rev. Wright
Edited on Tue Apr-29-08 02:57 PM by Tim4319
can we please drop this connection, and get on to the issue at hand?

I was watching to CNN and saw Barack holding a press conference distancing himself from Rev. Wright. He stated he was angered by the comments, and made it clear that those comments are not anything he agrees with.

Is it possible the subject matter can move to attempting to occupy the White House for the next 4 to 8 years?

1. Too damn late.
It stretches the bounds of belief to think that Obama is truthful when he say's he had been unaware of his pastors world view, until just recently. Obama is running on "judgment", this is not good judgment.

It's not going anywhere. The Reps and the media will drag this up every time he moves.

5. Haven't seen it yet but my gut says this was a good move on his part.
Now the focus will shift. Wright needed to "get the hook" and taken off center stage.

Talking point tonight on Tweety will probably be: He did what he had to do. Tweety looked pained last night. Pained and angry. I think tonight he'll be relieved. But count on one of the RWers, probably Buchanen, trying desperately to keep this thing spinning, saying something late "It won't do any good. It's too late, yada yada." Mark my words!

6. Do you really think Obama is not now "damaged goods?"
In the past this was his Spiritual Mentor, he couldn't say enough WONDERFUL things about him...now, has Wright magically become psychotic? Is this NOT what was in his sermons? I don't see anything different.

Obama has distanced himself from Wright like a Cormorant distanced itself from the Exxon Valdez oil slick. This is the beginning of the end, and if the partisans insist on him, and get him, he WILL be defeated, and we WILL have President McCain.

Take a minute, take 3 deep slow breaths, close your eyes, and tell me I'm wrong.

Obama has not changed his opinion of Wright. He is just doing what he has to do politically to gain the white vote. Virtually all blacks will still support Wright AND Obama. If you don't understand this, you don't know politics.

This is going to be the wedge issue that steals the 10% of the vote that will elect McCain. This was much, much closer than you thought, and now it's going to kill us if we aren't very careful.

rather have this conversation with someone else, but here goes. why the fuck does Obama have to prove he's christian? Now, why the fuck does Obama now have to prove he's the right kind of christian? why the fuck does Obama have to defend every goddamn thing his pastor says?

what religion is McSame? what church does he go to? What church does Hillary go to and what's the deal with that fundamentalist little cult-like group she attends?

Who you gonna fight for? Who's pristine enough for you to fight for against this ongoing patently phony religious/family/jingo distraction bullshit?

This Wright stuff is bullshit in reality, but obviously keeps you from siding with Obama. so who's the perfect candidate?

37. We don't have a good candidate in my mind.
And I'm not a Christian; I don't care if a candidate is a Satanist as long as he'll end the war and fix the fucking health care system.

Both of these campaigns have made a mockery of this primary. The DNC has shown themselves to be worse idiots than they have ever been in the past: Howard Dean should be tarred and feathered.

What I'm sick of is losing elections. I see all the earmarks of the McGovern Campaign at its most naive in the campaign of Barack Obama. Hillary Clinton is a shyster in every sense of the word, but she just might be (and I use this in the most positive way) a big and nasty enough BITCH to eat McCain's lunch: maybe she'll make him lose his temper and throw a punch at her, I don't know.

I do know I'm sick of surprises from the new kid on the block. I'm at the point that if while he was on stage his HEAD split open and a flying saucer came out and flew around the room I'd only be marginally surprised. I thought I'd seen EVERYTHING in an election, but NOW this guy has his own walking talking nasty ass NEMISIS who used to be his Spiritual Advisor, His minister, and has had his BOOKS dedicated to him? McCain must be coming in his pants.

My spin? An Obama candidacy at this point is a GIFT to McCain. I never thought he had a big shot, but NOW?

This, I firmly believe, is much, much bigger than any of you think. I applaud your loyalty, but I cannot but believe at this point it is misplaced.

Thank you for your words, I hope this does not alienate us.

That aside, you saw the "Swiftboat" and "I invented the Internet" bullshit, and you call THIS small potatoes? We need every single solitary Democratic Party vote to win this one, and Obama fucked ALL of us, ESPECIALLY you, his supporters. He's come up as a newcomer with baggage with a BIG MOUTH. Do you think this guy is going to shut up?

Daniel Shore himself, one of the most astute of the commentators and no friend of Clinton called this a very big deal today, one that Obama can't make go away on his own. I think this is much worse than any of you think, and if you believe this isn't a MAJOR handicap in the fall for Senator Obama, you are whistling in the dark.

Maybe he can make this go away, without shooting that old man, I sincerely doubt it.

for the convention and SD fight ahead. This has been an interesting exercise for me. The battle between the Clintons and their supporters and others in the party will continue. I'm not really sure what it means for the party. I don't know if the party can adequately be cohesive enough for a final push in years ahead when it comes to things such as civil liberties and the rights of people vs new interests such as the new version of the MIC called the Security industrial complex and the think tanks and corporations around it. I don't if the war continues between Dean and the DLC. I'm not sure where I stand anymore besides alone. That's scarey since I'm still in the delegate process this year. I do know the area of growth in politics seems to be the unaffiliated or independents though Obama's efforts have put some in our corner recently. I don't know if they will stay if he loses. It's all screwed up.

47. Nope! We cannot drop this because obama has not fully
answered the questions and the questions remain: Why did he stay a member of the congregation? Why didn't he speak up earlier? And why did he reward Rev. Wright with a campaign position even after knowing of his comments? As I read and reread the words of pastor wright, I keep thinking: If my rabbi ever uttered such hateful words from the pulpit about America and declared all Palestinians to be terrorists, I have no doubt I would have withdrawn immediately from his congregation.

obama said for the first time a few weeks ago that had pastor Wright not recently resigned as pastor of the church, he would have withdrawn. But that only reraised the same questions: Why didn't he act before the resignation? If he did not want to withdraw from the church – and I truly try to understand his personal difficulty doing so – then why not at least speak out publicly and say, in the famous phrase of the late Sen. Robert F. Kennedy: "No – this is unacceptable." Furthermore, after knowing about some of these sermons and having serious problems with some of their messages, why did Mr. Obama still decide to appoint Rev. Wright to his official presidential campaign religious advisory committee?

The questions remain and obama, WHY NOW?
