Q: What will you realistically do if John McCain wins the Oval Office in November?
I know that I am new here on DU and all, but please remember I asked for
a _realistic_ plan that you can afford or be able to do, not some whim that
you will forget about if/when the worst happens and the Democrat nominee loses.

(And I pray that it won't happen, believe you me!)

1. Not much I can do
I'll keep supporting Democrats at the local level and hope McCain doesn't start any more wars.

4. That would be 'Democratic nominee'
and I sincerely don't expect that McCain will win; he's old, he's out of touch ('my friends, I'd be the first to admit that I don't know much about economics'), he has a temper problem, he's disliked and distrusted by the GOP base, and he's running on a 'stay the course' platform that would basically be Bush's third term (as if the first two weren't disastrous enough). Why you assume he has a realistic chance of winning, in a year that's seen record-breaking primary turnnout for the Democratic Party and record numbers of new Democratic voter registrations, is perplexing.

20. Realistic indeed
Mainstream America has all but had it with the shenanigans of the Democratic party primary race.
I think it's more than realistic that McCain has a chance, when it clearly should be a Dem runaway.
The problem as I see it has been debated to death on these pages: whether you want to point to Pelosi's aversion to tables, the horrendous and destructive mud-slinging between Clinton and Obama, or the failure of the Dems to market a platform that can capture the imaginations and hopes of this country. I'm not saying there isn't one, I am saying that no one can tell you what it is (outside of these forums).
The best chance the Dems have as of today is to hope McCain loses, rather than us to win it.

8. Nothing, really.
I'll be angry and sad and frustrated, but to be perfectly honest my life won't change too much.

I'm fortunate enough to be confident I can continue to live relatively comfortable no matter who wins. It's the people that don't have that luxury that I'm concerned about.

13. Continue working and living in Korea
Wife and I have given thoughts to moving to the US (Her - first time, me- back to US) with the girls. If mcbush wins we'll be staying in Korea (which has a new president that seems to be challenging sarkozy, berlusconi and harper for the role of scrubs bff). At least here we have national health care, the streets are safe and the schools are pretty good and we get by pretty damned well on one income.

23. If it's Hillary v. McCain, I'm not sure I'd feel any worse than if Hillary was elected
Yes, I'm a liberal, but when Hillary supported the war and supports a stupid gas-tax rebate just like McCain and supports a stupid foreclosure freeze and supports a stupid freeze on filling up the strategic petroleum reserve - well, I can't really say her policies are any better. That makes me damn angry, because liberals have much better policy positions than what Hillary embodies. So yeah, with Hillary and McCain in so much agreement over policy, I'll vote for the person with better character, and that's McCain. I'll cry all the way home from the polling booth that Hillary forced me to do this, but he's the lesser of two evils.

Folks, it can't be enough that she happens to call herself a Democrat. That shouldn't give her a free pass to our support.

Both Hillary and McCain think that we're already at war with Iran. Sorry, but I don't think that we have to go to war with Iran. If it's Hillary vs. McCain I'll be writing in Ron Paul.

28. My survival plan
1. Install solar panels and get off the grid completely.

2. Grow a majority of the food I eat. Preserve by canning/drying.

3. Continue to build my local network of neighbors so we can help out each other.

4. Continue collecting items of value that can be swapped/traded for goods and services when the dollar is no longer worth anything.

5. Continue to learn about herbs/plants/natural remedies that can be used to treat minor health emergencies.

45. The IMF and China are no doubt planning "structural adjustment" for the USA
If John "100 years of war" McCain becomes president, they will basically have to impose a financial structural adjustment, because unless we end the war, the dollar will soon be worthless, which would plunge not just us, but all those other countries holding dollars and dollar denominated assets, into chaos.

They will not have that.

If McCain becomes president, look forward to an "adjustment" that will make Russia 1990-1998 look like a mild recession.

I'm sure that most of us love our country and want to stay here, but if McCain becomes president and you can get out, that would be highly advisable. Don't sacrifice your life for the mistakes of Bush and McCain.

I realize it takes a long time to get into Canada, but there are other alternatives. I like South Africa, for example, and they are desperate for educated emigres.
