Obama didn't look good in that press conference
and I AM a Obama supporter

He was slow and too reflective. He stuttered and stammered.

He appeared weak and vulnerable and trust me the Clinton will sieze on this like red meat. The MSM will too.

I'm not counting him out but they (both of them mentioned above) have been hammering on him and it shows.

I'm just saying.

I said even after Super Tuesday that she was still the odds on favorite as long as she could plausibly get to Denver. Looks like she found a reason (and the way the polls in In and NC are going)

I'm just saying.

I thought he looked OK. He always stammers, so that's nothing different.

It was a somber occasion - I thought he had the appropriate demeanor.

34. He stammers for the simple fact
that he KNOWS the media is just waiting to seize upon his very next "misspeak" and turn it into a 24/7 cable media circus. Therefore, he is having to calculate and parse every word as he speaks, causing it to appear he is stammering. I only wish that our media and political interests in this country didn't act in this manner as it would truly serve America better to hear policy instead of Rev. Wright, or the Iraq War instead of Flag Pins, but we have what we have and Obama is doing his best to deal with that until he is in a position where he can work to change the corrupt and flawed election process.

107. I caught a video clip of Obama,, a week or so ago.
He was speaking extemporaneously, to a small outdoor crowd and for pretty close to an hour. Manifestly unscripted, he spoke in a plain conversational style. But it was both clear and cogent, and it was a pleasure to listen to. The small group seemed to have shared my impression. Characterize Hillary any way you see fit, but he's a NATURAL!

The fate of the world hangs on our November choice, and it seems almost "shallow" to pick a candidate mainly on such facile impressions, but we could do worse!

pnorman
PS: If anyone here ha the link to that video clip, please post it here.

122. he found out his dad was an asshole. that is hard to assimilate. he
is not the kind of man, IMHO, who lets go of loyalty easily. Wright has a lot going for himself but I think part of him is a grandstanding asshole. His AIDS blather and the kids learning styles are stupid. He may be fine some ways but bad others. And, he is hurting Obama and he knows it. That is not forgivable to me.

8. I think he looked honest and humble because Wright has caused him
to have to divorce him.

I think that OBama was not only presidential, but showed that even in anger, he demonstrates a remarkable amount of even temperament.

I think he did the right thing for himself, as Wright was emphasizing the difference in folks of different race and backgrounds, while OBama has been emphasizing the similarities of all of us throughout his campaign ( and even in his senate campaign as well as his speech in 2004).

Wright deliberately chose to say things that run counter to Obama's message, and so Wright did the wrong thing.

I support Obama, and I am most proud of him today for how he handled himself at that podium.

9. "My Pastor for the past 20 years shares none of my basic beliefs. Who knew?"
I guess the Obama campaign thinks it is a slam-dunk case, and their candidate hit the ball out of the park by severing his ties with Wright.

Obama knows it's a weak case, and that's why he looked real nervous and hesitant answering questions from the press less than one hour ago.

You can't be a real Obama supporter and think that "Hillary has been the odds on favorite since Super Tuesday".

That is simply ridiculous. Super Tuesday was the last time that Hillary was actually still in this.
Everything after that has just been the winding down of her Ego.

80. Obama's problem may be that there's still a bit of a human being under the politican's facade.
Bill Richardson said that when he met Obama he seemed too nice to be a politician. He hasn't perfected the art of knifing an old friend in the back and doing it with a smile on his face.

It makes me think more highly of him as a human being, I just wonder if our political system is ready for that.

I know I was. It was about as sincere a performance as you'll ever see from a politician. Yes, he was deliberate in his delivery; he always measures his words carefully, even moreso in this situation.

Didn't look tired at all to me; in fact, I was thinking to myself how damned young he still looks after all of this. Eye of the beholder, I guess.

24. I think we were seeing someone being genuine and decent..
He was thoughtful, measured, and heart felt. Some people may prefer the fake artificial mask on their elected leaders. I found it refreshing. If Hillary mocks it or tries more of her "as far as I know" or " we need to examine this further" crap--she will reap a backlash.

Look how she stayed with a cheating husband all those years just so she could have the chance to run for President.

are supposed to feel a sense of loss, experience grief, and may even display sadness when they are forced to end a relationship. This is what it looks like. The Clintons, being strictly political animals, are immune from any of these awkward displays of human emotions .

57. Yes, using the word "but" negates EVERYTHING before it.
If you truly support Obama, you've got a dysfunctional way of showing it. Perhaps you should join the Rev. Wright's fan club for throwing upstanding friends "under the bus?"

To me, Obama looked "saddened" ... I'm sure that seeing his Pastor posturing and discounting all that you hold dear was "very hurtful."

Hell, what would you expect him to feel and look like?

To me, Obama came across as intelligent, genuine and profoundly disappointed in a friend who "turned against him" in favor of his own ego.

Obama's comments today help me to like him even more!

Barack Obama is "The Genuine Article."

He has a habit of dragging out his answers too much. Between this and the debate he's not doing well. But it won't matter since the media will only take soundbytes to make the news. And most people won't watch the entire thing. Thank god.

He needs to step it up when it comes to extemporaneous speaking.

He did it anyway

He has a weak selfish character. Not qualities for a leader

100. I thought he was too slow
Edited on Tue Apr-29-08 04:49 PM by Awsi Dooger
I support Hillary by attrition but I'm trying to evaluate Obama more fairly, since he's the lopsided favorite to be the nominee.

Long before underpants' thread, or reading any related discussion on the internet, my summation was Obama was much too slow and measured, to the point it will be a theme when his performance is analyzed, along with the questionable political instincts of not denouncing Wright to begin with.

During that presser, from the perspective of ability to dig out of this, I kept thinking I wish the roles were reversed, with Wright as the candidate and Obama as the controversial problem. Obama may be an impressive prepared speaker but he's hardly an impromptu whiz and doesn't vary his tone or emphasis nearly enough. Like today when he used the word outrage it didn't sound like outrage. He could have substituted the word tickled and I'm not sure anyone would have doubletaked for a few seconds. Plus, it lacked a memorable sound byte, something Obama needs to deflect God Damn America.

Obama was considerably more emphatic and impressive regarding the gas tax. Listen to those two performances back to back and it's obvious which one he's more confident discussing. Unfortunately, in terms of November impact, Obama is saving his best for the trivial issue.

underpants always gives fair critiques. I wish we had more threads like this, instead of the desperate robo threads; "Why this is great for Obama..."

those, not on the receiving end couldn't comprehend. That is why I was happy to see Wright clear his name. His church got bomb threats. I dare not think what Obama maybe getting considering he has family. They willl never give Obama a break it'll be worse than what happened to Clinton and it is shocking , I imagine the world is schoked they could never view this before, before the net. I hope he is stong enough to survive. If Obama or his people are reading this try to mediatate, focus on the emotion love and breath slowly when you speak it stops stuttering, I imagine this is overwhelming. Then think of the courage of King who went through similar.

Even as dubious as Heather Mills is who's business is it of ours, in her divorce. They have hounded her like crazy, that she does deserve the compensation of the divorce settlement. The media frenzy clearly half driven her crazy. And ultimately we have the power to stop it by switching off.

* note I have now seen the clip, he is holding up well and strong good to see. Just wish media would give a good man a break for a change, it would only do America good and the world.

He didn't mince words, and he didn't grandstand. He didn't fluff the issue and not point out that he was taking it personally. The point that the biggest woe was from hearing his previous repudiation of Wright's actions characterized by Wright as just evasive politickin' made him seem genuine.

His tenor was straightforward, yet it didn't deny his frustration.

It was his finest hour to date, and I'm hardly a fan.
