Bomb Iran By Summer's End
http://www.truthout.org/docs_2006/042908J.shtml

...and make the Dems look like "appeasers" ? I thought this was already war-gamed

Will Iran Be Next ?
by James Fallows, The Atlantic
http://www.truthout.org/docs_04/110904C.shtml

"Soldiers, spies, and diplomats conduct a classic Pentagon war game-with sobering results." But the DoD will go ahead anyway this summer. Oh well. Gas prices will hit $5 a gallon in that case. And Republicans will blame the Democrats. The irony of it all is just too much. And the puppydog media ? They'll support the new war same as the old war...profits before people you know.

1. I think it will help us.
The conesquences of the last republican-run war (that some dems voted for) is fresh in people's minds.

They lied to start the last war. Maybe not a majority... but far more people will be watching the M$M's spew with a more critical eye, this time around.

4. I think your point might be irrelevent.
The administration will frame it as neutralizing strategic threats via surgical bombing runs, and NOT a ground war. The administration will claim that the AUMF applies since Iran is meddling in Iraq, and Democrats will go for it, hook, line, and sinker.

Call me a cynic, but I just don't think we'll get that critical eye you're talking about. I think the framing won't allow it, plus with McCain promoting it, the press will not want to undermine him.

9. I know it. I feel the same way.
After being burned as many times as we progressives have, it's hard to see the bright side of anything.

Everything always seems to fall for the establishment, no matter what.

13. CHOKE, GAG ! Starting another war-front won't get a critical eye ?
Congress will have to be stone-deaf and dead-eye blind to let it pass by so easily. The Iranians won't just lie down either, unless they listen to HRC's line about "obliterating" them. The war talk has gone too far and this isn't Obama's fault, I can tell yoo that. (intentional typo: take THAT, John Yoo !).

2. I have been hearing this exact same claim for the last 3 years
each year there will be an attack on Iran over the summer. It's getting kind of old, let it go.

7. The difference now is that the Bush Administration is down to the last draw....
They can not afford to allow a Barack Obama Presidency because they have no idea what he may do to them in the coming months following his inauguration. If ever there was a time for a hit on Iran by this Administration, it will be in the next few months.

11. I'm sorry, I was lead to believe this shit in the previous years
I will not believe it now.

Bush is batshit crazy, but he is not about to launch a war against Iran. Saying that he will is using a scare tactic similar to what the right does with terrorism.

Until you show me some actual evidance of this being the case I will not fall for this shit again. Like I said, every year it's the exact same story.

12. I'm not posting this to scare anyone, just trying to be open minded about what may happen...

There are allot smarter people out there than I am that think there is an immanent attack on Iran coming. Yep, it would be bat shit crazy to do but hey if you consider the source you have your answer to that.

3. I seriously doubt that if they attack Iran that we will even have to worry about...
elections or anything else for that mater. Many think this will just be a cake walk, but I chose to think it will be like living hell. A lot of innocent people are going to die and untold destruction will occur. The US will walk away from this unscathed, that you can be sure of.

If the Bush administration attacked Iran, the Republican Party would go the way of the Whigs.

but look half way down the page and note... "War on Iran: Unleashing Armageddon in the Middle East"

Thats enough to scare the crap outta anyone.

18. people as diverse as Scott Ritter and Pat Buchanan have predicted this
I bring it up here and people just stare blankly or flame me

It doesn't have to be a full scale front... it can be targetted bombing and minimized in our controlled media...

of course there will be some kind of instigating event... but the strategy will be for a quick strike in response to some outrage or other...

they will be bombed before anyone knows it... they'll tell us about it after the fact

HERE is the effect it will have... Clinton's inexplicably bellicose language this campaign... and her previous hawkish positions and voting record... will ALL be exonerated in the media as...

PRESCIENT... she will look like a younger McCain and maybe paraphrase Daddy Bush...

"A KINDER, GENTLER, BLITZKRIEG"

19. World War 3
Iran is a major oil supplier to China and Russia.

I don't see how they can simply sit back and watch the US take over the entire ME.

23. We bomb Iran
and Iranian troops will flood into Iraq. It will be the worst US military defeat in History. There is no way a scattered force of 150,000 could defend against 500,000 troops that Iran pours over the border. Might even result in a US nuclear attack.

If that happens I'll be happy I've been stockpiling canned food since January.
