To the surprise of the punditocracy, you'll remember that Obama's national poll numbers barely registered a response to the initial Wright flap. The establishment view was that the public did not hold Wright's words against Obama in terms of their support for his candidacy, and they were also similarly accepting of his speech on race. (Of course, Hillary supporters and GOP enthusiasts excluded). The bottom line:
the public largely rejected the MSM narrative that Wright was poison to Obama's candidacy.Well, now on the heels of his loss in Pa., with pundits spinning like centrifuges that Obama has lost whites, you-know-who comes out of the woodwork!
Is it then possible that the same public that stuck with Obama through the first Wright episode, who evaluated that his association with the man did not persuade to reject him as a candidate, will hold the same view? Even more so, will they be offended by the possible destructive intent of Wright (toward Obama's campaign) and likewise offended and annoyed by the latest round of media overkill?
Why would the public render a different judgment on the same matter than they did the first time? The MSM's pastor-gasm and non-stop pastor-gating serves their narrative of a real horse race-- they are only praying for a precipitous drop in Obama's support and a bloody convention fight.
Let's just see if the public surprises the pundits. We are political junkies here, living and breathing each unfolding event in real time. Most Americans are not. Let's see if Obama supporters or those leaning that way who have a more casual interest in politics watch the Wright coverage and say, "Not this again. Why doesn't this guy go away?", even get a little irritated at the media pile-on. ((As we all suffer from the high price of food, utilities, gas, mortgage, and think about the stupidity of an endless Iraq occupation).
