What Rev. Wright is getting wrong...my take.
I listened to the Bill Moyers interview and the NAACP speech and found them very interesting and enjoyable indeed.

But I did cringe inside when I read the Rev's other remarks about how Barack spoke as a politician and Rev. Wright spoke as a preacher because he is presuming to read Obama's mind and is making judgments that Obama is not telling the truth and Rev. Wright has turned that into his reality. That is a very very unfair statement to Obama, and it goes to the root of Rev. Wright's problem which is that sometimes he takes kernels of truth and then he takes a large leap and starts making a whole lot of assumptions. Then he starts speaking for other people like he knows what is fact, when really he doesn't.

The chickens coming home to roost thing does have, I feel, some truth to it in that our policies are partly to blame for us getting into trouble. But there seems to be a bit of an air of satisfaction that we are getting our comeuppance, and that, I think is where he gets into trouble.

The AIDS thing...I understand how he can be suspicious due to the Tuskeegee situation and all, but really, without really solid evidence, he should not be teaching this to kids...that their government hates them so much they will deliberately give them a disease that will kill them. That simply isn't fair and believing that can be an awful burden for a kid to bear. I wish he would be a little more responsible when he says these sorts of things..

Anyway, while I find the Rev. very interesting, I do feel that emphasizing how we are different (even if nobody is deficient) is not what we need right now. It would be better if we could emphasize our commonality instead, and how we all need one another to make this country work the way we want it to. We all have a role to play, we are all equally valuable in achieving our goals for this country.

So that's my take on the Rev. I do feel bad that he got the attention of the firing squad and I have no doubt in my mind that he is a wonderful person, and that he is doing everything he can to make a better world for everyone. He's just a bit misguided and misunderstood.

Hope my observations don't offend anyone.

1. I don't think Wright was trying to read Obama's mind.
He has known Obama for many years and has certainly talked with him extensively. I'm sure Wright knows Obama's opinions on many issues...So maybe Wright knows Obama is not telling the truth, and that is what prompted him to say that.

3. Maybe on some things, but I'm specifically thinking of the AIDS theory.
I highly doubt Obama believes that one.

2. The media is certainly trying to spin Wright as Obama's "embarrassing uncle" (so to speak),
but I don't think that's really Wright's or Obama's fault. Wright may be flamboyant and sometimes over-the-top, but I agree with you that he's a fundamentally good man.

4. That's the words..."Over the top".
He could be so much more credible if he didn't go quite so far out on a limb.

5. I agree with you....but here's the rub,.....Obama should not be judged

for his pastor's words, period.....

Rev. Wright, if one is concerned on how he makes Obama looks, for sure says things that would make one cringe (even me), but these are not Obama's words. And that is the bad part about this whole fabricated situation.

6. I know...isn't it frustrating?
But what can we do? Sticking our heads in the sand won't work with the MSM's blanket coverage. He's gotta thread the needle and come out strong.

This is IT, his last hurdle. If he can make this happen he's golden.

7. I go alone with you on most of this.
I just hate to see us not get Obama who I think is a man of our times. I do not want a re-run of another Clinton group along with the endless Bush people. There are a lot of Am. who believe anything their Pastor tells them. Having grown up in a Congressional church (UCC) it is the last thing they would have you do. It was always think for your self. They are very social minded.

8. Good post!
I also agree with portions of what Rev Wright is saying...but, I think he confuses people(general vote public)On the flip: he does tend to seperate people into groups and then proceeds to 'insult' them ...and most people who attend church or not, have NEVER have never seen this behavior by their Minister,Pastor,Rabbi...etc.and he also tends to make everything about Black's and White's...I don't get that and I don't think I'm the only one who feels this way.... Hence, Unity..I don't hate or even dislike Rev Wright. I think he has amazing amounts of passion, and does a lot of great things in his community.

9. Well, I do have doubt in my mind that (Wright) is a wonderful person
Wright is really screwing Obama with his line that Barack only disowned his statements "because he is a politican, and I understand that". In other words: the brother probably agrees with me on most everything, but he can't afford to admit it in public.

11. He is a brilliant preacher
Who is furiously angry right now - and for good reason. In his views he seems in rather a seventies time warp. In his ability to be indelibly connected with Obama - unfortunate.
Obama has to "denounce" etc. and yet most of what Wright says is dead on. What a dilemma.
