I don't know: Is Wright as big a story as the DU firestorm suggests?
I mean to a broad audience beyond the limited reach of political talk shows. Fox and hate radio are already 24/7 anti-Obama anyway. 90% of those folks are gone anyway. People that watch Hardball and the like are political junkies with strong opinions of their own one way or the other. I guess a few people in airports might think something is up if they are stuck watching CNN midday. Until tornadoes become the new lead story.

This seem to be a story of, by, and for political reporters and their junkie listeners for the most part mostly because it was an address to the National Press Club. Not sure it is trickling down to the public at large all that much. Just my take from the tone of the AP stories, USA Today and the like. I don't watch TV nightly news so I suppose there could be a broad negative result there.

Since there is no "there" there (ie. bribery, extortion, felony, live boy, dead woman, coverup, etc) why is this a "scandal that will change the face of history"?

Final question, is guilt by association the new McCarthyism? If so, who is immune?

9. If the African American community in NC senses a backlash against Obama coming from other
constituencies over the Rev. Wright issue, then I predict that they will rally all the more to his defense. He might go from 85% to 95% support in the AA community and win NC by 20 points rather than by 15 points.

26. Yep.
When it's slow, they come up with all kinds of crap! I think the only ones who buy this crap are those who know their candidate is really "worse" than we think, and that it's the best they can do for her by making this into something is isn't!

4. It is being deliberately inflated by Fox and HRC camps
"The Reverend Wright Thing" was not a big issue until the HRC team figured it gave them leverage so they kept trying to pump it up and they have succeeded. Fox News has gladly assisted.

6. I hope not -- But that's one reason it could be damaging
Those who pay attention may digest the subtleties of it.

But to those who don;t pay close attention to politics, all they are going to see and hear is the friction and heat, and associate it with Obama.

20. Definitely not. My boyfriend says so!
;)

Seriously, I use my boyfriend as a gauge for these things. He's the type of guy who goes by impressions and he's easily turned off by drama or negativity. He's exactly the type of person who would be offended by Wright's style, if there was offense to be taken.

He watched part of Wright's speech today and was impressed. He came home tonight and listened to a bit of the uproar on MSNBC and just shrugged his shoulders. "I don't know how they got that impression", he said, "I thought it was a pretty good speech".

So no, it's not such a big deal.

28. He just doesn't get riled up.
He knows they're lying to them. He doesn't believe them, but he's just not going to let them piss him off.

Honestly, if I didn't have him to balance me out, I'd probably go insane. I don't even want to think about how many televisions I'd have gone through. *shudder*

34. my husband ...
he watched the speech, and after it, he said "That is the way everyone should answer questions from the press". Then tonight when he caught whiff of the lollapalooza on the tv, he said.."Oh man, Obama has got to do something about that guy"....and I said.."but you said"..and he said.."that's me, that's not the rest of the people"..Funny. For some reason, people are convinced that entire states are full of stereotypical dumb people. It's fascinating, but I'm not buying it...this time.

23. As long as we're playing the guilt-by-association game: The Bushes have a 30-year relationship with
..the Saudi Royal Family.

A VERY close relationship.

15 of the 19 on 9/11 were Saudis.... who grew up listening to America-hate-speech in Madrases in Saudi Arabia with the full support of the government.

Dubya's relationship with the Saudi Royal family certainly got this kind of scrutiny.... didn't it?

Oh wait....

29. So... except for the boyfriend story... there seems to be no evidence
in any responses that this is anything but a political junkie story? Fox, CNN, MSNBC, KO etc all mentioned in responses but so what?

I'll ask again: Is this an important enough scandal to keep the GOP in power considering their overwhelming GE negatives and thus change the course of history?
