The original draft pre-dates the 19TH Amendment and the exemption of women is an anachronism. As long as there is such an exemption, we have SEXISM. Period.

4. I was in an Infantry Training company in 1970

With 200 men, most of whom had Bachelor's degrees... just graduated, lost their deferments and been drafted.

They refused to sign up for an extra year to be officers or to go National Guard to get out of going to Vietnam.

I wonder sometimes how many of those men died, while Bush was growing his sideburns, playing weekend warrior, and packing his blue nose with high dollar coke.

between the ages of 18 to 25 would be a good thing. Men and women alike, weather in the armed services or Amrica-cor or medical or social welfare or scientific research. The rewards would be grants toward further education. Other countries do this and it seems to work well.
