Why Obama can't beat McCain...the racist 8 percent...Roger Simon
Obama is the wrong choice right now. He will not be able to overcome the racist 8 percent or the 15 percent of white voters that think Obama is a Muslim according to a an AP-Yahoo poll on April 2-14. As ignorant and racist as that poll sounds, it probably is an indication of what Obama will be up against. And, those figures might be a bit low according to Simon. Is this the time to "test the waters" with his candidacy in November? There is too much at stake, folks. Idealism and hope are wonderful; however, defeat in November would be disastrous for the average American citizen. Just keep in mind that these prejudiced voters will override their miserable economic situation with their strong dislike of a man of mixed races. It is a sorry fact at the present time. http://www.politico.com/news/stories/0408/9761.html

the same 8 percent who wouldn't vote for obama would not vote for a woman either, or any dem, because, as you stated, they are already voting republican.

people who don't like black people don't like persons of middle eastern decent either and have no problem with war.

I love it when DUers post references to polls that they obviously haven't bothered to actually read and thus don't realize they completely undermine the point they are trying to make. Too funny!!

Old school horseshit...let's keep making the world safe for ignorant white racists and forget the 85% of white people who don't give a shit about Obama's race. Not to mention people of color who might actually be excited by the prospect.

16. saying
obama shouldn't be the nom because racist 8% won't vote for him is utter and pure racist bile in itself. so, we should not vote a for a black guy to keep 8% of the population happy?

it's kind of like something insane i read the other day- clinton made her obliteration comment to keep the "moderates" happy.

utter old school horseshit.

6. You might've been right a couple months ago...
but now Clinton is the poorest candidate to put up against McCain. She's acquired way too much baggage and dirt for the Republicans to throw at her in the GE... which is why Limbaugh's whole thing was to turn out conservatives to vote for HER in the primary...

This is the same shithead argument that Goldwater and other Repig asswipes used when civil rights legislation (which was very popular) was going to be enacted.

13. And if you actually look at the AP/Yahoo poll, you aren't going to like it if you're for HRC
Edited on Thu Apr-24-08 09:37 AM by onenote
Live by a poll, die by a poll. Yes, the AP/Yahoo poll shows that there is portion of the electorate that is racist and ignorant. Guess what: they're mostly repubs who aren't going to vote for HRC either. And, thus, here' is what the AP/YAHOO poll found: "Obama appears to be the stronger candidate"

Sorry.

The more people learn about Obama the more they are voting for him. Obama rises in the polls over time and Clinton sinks.

20. Can't be any worse than the percentage of Clinton-haters who..
...right now are supporting her because they want to defeat her in the GE (but she's too selfish to care).

Many men will NOT vote for a female and certainly NOT Hillary. What percentage of those are out there? I'd venture to say at least the same percentage.

The article may not present a false premise however, there is a similar divide for Hillary re: sexism and the sheer fact that she's a Clinton.

28. How many of those would vote for ANY Democrat? Besides, McCain gets worse numbers
because of his age. Polls have shown a higher number of people saying they wouldn't vote for McCain because he was too old.

And no doubt Obama would pull in voters other candidates would miss. Maybe because of his race, maybe because of his age, and largely just because the media has been campaigning for him 24/7 since he was first elected to the senate.

Don't get me wrong, he will lose in November. He has no experience, he has only borrowed words and ideas, and once he starts campaigning against McCain, the media will turn on him. Some already have. He will lose--that's the corporate plan. But it won't be because of his race (Or because of Clinton).

30. If our country won't vote for Obama because of racism, it deserves McCain.
There, I said it. Been holding back on that for a while.

That's how I feel. If our country is willing to put its prejudices above its best interests, then it deserves what it gets.

I'll work with my community to survive a McCain presidency together. As for what happens to poor racist whites under McCain, I couldn't care less.

After the last eight years, if this country rejects the chance to go down a better path out of something as pathetic as racism, then we deserve what we get. Let China or India run the world, because our time is up.
