1. I hate to rain on your parade but
Don't you think those are rather superficial reasons? I think the emphasis on gender and race shows that we have not come as far as some wish.

Just sayin'

6. no, we haven't come as far as we should have by now
but we're breaking through those barriers, and making history, paving the way for future generations.

13. The OP isn't talking "reason" for voting...
Jeez! The fact that we will have either a woman or a black person in the white house is historic! And wonderful! It shows how far we've come.

that either one of those will happen, and we'll be stuck with another barely cognizant Republican.

9. this is why we, as a party, need to stop arguing and start
working together.

Vote for the dem nominee regardless of who you support now. It's time we start working against the republican machine, and start fighting against McCain instead of all this inside party BS.

11. There may come a time for folks to realize that prize is in November, not August
and if neither one of these two have the delegates- AND would likely get TROUNCED, that there's still a mechanism in place to look elsewhere....

18. And we need to stop this stupid fear tactic that so many are pushing
McCain = four more years, and everyone knows this. Any Democrat can win against four more years. This fear thing is insidious, and growing, and scary as all hell. People need to wake up and KNOW we can make this happen! There are far more Democrats than there are Republicans, and the Republicans have screwed us over for a very long time. We need to stay positive and quit spreading this idiotic and unwarranted fear around.

Working together! You are so very right!

17. You've swallowed the fear
You can't honestly believe Four More Years McCain can beat a Dem in the GE! Bush's numbers are as low as they go, and McCain is promising more of the same.

There is nothing to fear but fear itself...

19. Actually, the way the coprorate media will spin it
is that McCain's a "moderate" and a "maverick," and, I'm sorry to say- all too many Americans will buy the branding. Even now.

21. That's utter bullshit
It doesn't take a genius to see McCain is working on his last brain cells! And you don't give people enough credit for knowing who owns the media. No one is going to believe that a "maverick" or a "moderate" can trump a call for four more years! That is never going to happen.

Fear and whining are the only thing this party need worry about...

22. Americans aren't geniuses, they DO cling to branding and are easily misled
Edited on Wed Apr-23-08 05:41 PM by depakid
Facts and actual policies take second place to framing and image.

If 2004 didn't show us that, I don't don't know what will.

24. If your clinging to irrational fear is any indication
You may be right.

:eyes:

The only thing 2004 has shown us is that elections can be fixed. The outcome has nothing whatsoever to do with the voting. Bush was placed in office, period. It had nothing to do with votes.

26. Not an irrational deal at all- a product of observation and study
over many years.

As to Bush- that's about as shallow a bit of analysis that I've seen.

Had the corporate media framing and presentations of "image" not been effective- and had Americans NOT been so easily misled, the election wouldn't even have been close enough to steal, based on the record and on popularity of the candidates policies on issue after issue.

28. Shallow?
Did the Supreme Court stop the counting of votes and declare him POTUS or did they not?

Again, corporate media framing is a lot less viable than it was in 2004. A lot more people are hip to that jive, and still more are pretty fed up with Bush. Hell, he even sunk the ratings of a stupid game show to their lowest level!

It makes no sense at all that a candidate who promises nothing will change can be elected when the sitting president has such low approval ratings.

What is more wonderful than that....
Is that we will have a President who is not a Bush or a Clinton.

Granted, it goes far beyond that. But it's reason enough, after 28 years of this shit.

10. We'll have a black man or John McCain
Because at this point, if the supers give the election to Hillary - she'll lose. I wish people would stop this. It isn't helping anybody face reality. Hillary can't win. She's got to go.

27. It's not fear, it's fact
I am sorry. You cannot steal an election and think those same people are going to vote for you. It won't happen. I also think people are sorely underestimating McCain. Cut taxes and kill terrorists is still pretty damn appealing to this braindead country.
