2. Hillary is COUNTING on groups like this to help her
If theres one thing this primary season has taught, its that deep inside both Clintons have always been racists.

Oh sure Bill did some good things for the AA community when he needed their votes in the 90's, but those days are long gone.

The Clintons are not racists. You may not like them. You may not agree with some of the tactics that have been used in this primary run, but they are not racists.

36. I don't know why and hope that they do.
Silence does not imply consent (just look at all of Obama's present votes). It may imply uncertainty or lack of clarity or a recognition that you can't win either way.

Thank you for saying they are not racist. A lot of accusations that are made here I can stomach. That particular one, I cannot.

4. The local GOP office isn't going to listen to any dem or repub, it is a statewide race
not national. They can run anything they want to.

Here is the problem, they are attacking the down ticket candidates through their endorsement of Obama.

What signal does that send to other Super Delegates? Do you think they have enough political capitol that they will want their photo and name laid over Rev Wright & Obama?

perception is everything and this is EXACTLY what the SD's look at, the candidates running down ticket.

Just missing the white hoods. Reminiscent of the "white hands ad".

You'll see it on TV news, they'll talk about it and give it free air time.

Also an ad from the guy who did Willie Horton, saying Obama will set black
gangs loose in your neighborhood (presumably to rape yopur white wimmin')
showing a B/W photo of Obama standing in an alley, Willie Horton style.

It is clearly an objectionable ad and should be condemned.

It may have happened, but I have not seen a single Cinton supporter say that it is OK. The Clinton campaigns silence SO FAR is just that, silence. That does not imply consent. I would also like to see her campaign denounce the ad. I would also like to see the Obama camp not turn around and use her silence to beat up the candidate or her supporters.

Obama began his campaign running on Hillary's "negatives" created by right-wing attacks. This was one of his primary arguments for his own "electability."

And by using the effects of those attacks - and their continuation - for his gain, Obama created the nastiness we see today.

55. Bullshit!
Of all the right wing attacks against her (and her husband, who was the President at the time), she never said anything about it. Didn't say a word. So why should she say anything about right wing attacks on her opponent if she didn't say anything back then?

This attack has nothing to do with Hillary. Let McCain/Obama and their campaign handle it.

70. Except that Hillary's already pushed Wright as an issue, so it's a little too late.
This is the sort of maliciousness at which the NC Republican Party really excels. They'll get a three-fer out of this. (1) They'll run the ad, which will hurt Obama and by extension all Democrats. (2) McCain is getting a lot of press for "strongly disagreeing" with the decision to run the ad, which makes him look like a "nice guy" while actually calling more attention to the ad itself, and (3) Hillary looks bad no matter what she says now. If she denounces the ad, the Republicans will yell "hypocrite" for her earlier statements, and they'll imply that the Democrats are trying to "hide the ad." If she ignores it, she looks like she's in collusion with the Republicans, which further divides the Democrats.

All this over a completely manufactured issue that has nothing whatsoever to do with Obama's policies or ability to lead the country.

I hate the Republicans.

Obama needs HIS ass kicked for being associated with all these problems that the RW are going to bring up. What in the hell does Hillary have to do with Wright. Do you guys ever hold Obama responsible for anything????

Hillary supporters do not support the airing of such controversial issues. In fact, we are dismayed that the dem front runner has such STUPID baggage that can be used against him.

Don't worry, I'm sure he'll give a speech about how rude it is to play "gotcha" politics. He'll tell everyone they need to play nice. Everything will be fine for Obama.

125. Just reading along as a progressive voter...
it strikes me as ironic that Republican swiftboating gets such a series of laughing emoticons. I do agree with our HRC-leaning DUers that I wouldn't expect HRC to personally reject the ads, since it is a competitive nomination race with no love lost on either side. But beyond the sexist tone of your attacks against Obama and his supporters (they're such mama's boys, such girls) which I would think the HRC crowd would avoid, I hope you all recognize that this Republican attack is against all Democrats, local and national. One of the reasons for the New Right takeover of so many local offices, legislatures, and judgeships is the fact that liberal Democrats gave up the fight in the so-called Red states, with the Terry McAuliffe-era DNC basically giving up large sections of the country without competing on behalf of Democrats in those states. One reason why I'm supporting Obama is I think he has a better chance in making Red states into swing states, including North Carolina, where there are swing voters that might at this point support Democrats locally if not nationally.

So, while you have your chuckle, keep in mind that for the better part of 25 years (before Dean took over the DNC), Democrats in red and some swing states have been withering on the vine, and the party organization has not even gained a competitive foothold in territory such as North Carolina. Don't forget that Harvey Gantt, African American senatorial candidate against Jesse Helms, got swiftboated there as well, helping to keep the Republican senate majority a few years ago - and this could happen again to candidates this year. Due to Obama's appeal among a wide range of Democrats, he has raised funds and support and built organizations in some of the swing and red states, and locally that can make a difference for progressive values. I've seen this happen in Western Wisconsin, where liberal-minded people have energized themselves since 2000 and now we have taken over 3-4 state legislature seats formerly held by Republicans. Look at Montana and its movement towards the Democratic side, Colorado too - that's where standing up for your party, not just yourself, gets results. You show me where Hillary Clinton has this longer view in mind, the need to play as a team and get local parties energized as well as the national party, and I would be happy to see it. But the Democratic party strength in these settings took a big tumble under Bill Clinton from 1992 till the end of his term - it took a new team at the DNC and new energy by local activists to buck the tide.

Keep laughing, though, if you think all this funny.

and they don't do well at statewide races either, the only ones they seem to win are U.S. Senate. They see an opening and they're taking it.

That being said, I think GOP strategy will be something like this. Surrogates play bad cop, McCain denounces, the message still gets out to who it needs to, and McCain looks like a swell guy who just has nasty supporters.
