Obama speech last night: "Sponsored by Abercrombie & Fitch."
Did any DUers notice last night the conspicuous placement of the three guys behind Obama, all wearing A&F shirts? I noticed it, and just kinda passed if off with a "Hmmm...that's interesting."

But today I'm seeing that this topic is being discussed by a few sites.

DListed caption: "Sponsored by Abercrombie & Fitch"

From Gawker: "This mystery is bugging me: Why were the three young guys behind Barack Obama during his concession speech tonight all wearing Abercrombie & Fitch t-shirts? Maybe it's a plot by the Obama campaign to win back the gay community, which has something of a taste for the youth clothing retailer and, especially, its catalogs, but whose vote is basically owned by Hillary Clinton. But gays aren't really a swing vote in the upcoming Indiana or North Carolina primaries, nor in the Democratic party's upcoming battle against Republican nominee John McCain. Perhaps, instead, this is some kind of bizarre attempt at product placement by Abercrombie, trying to latch on to some of Obama's rock-star appeal. Watch the Abercrombie boys shuffle around and holler during Obama's speech in the video after the jump."

From ShoppingBlog: "Hillary Clinton won Pennsylvania tonight and gave a rousing victory speech. Barack Obama then launched into a rousing speech to his supporters in Indiana, but no one in the blogosphere could listen to it because they were so distracted by the three idiots wearing Abercrombie and Fitch t-shirts who are standing right behind him. The guy on the far left is wearing a t-shirt that says "Fitch" in like mile high letters. Plus, the three amigos aren't even listening to his speech! Are they Abercrombie models? Infiltrators from American Apparel trying to drum up a campaign finance scandal?? Fitchtgate is just getting started...."

http://www.shoppingblog.com/cgi-bin/sblog.pl?sblog=422083

You can see them in this youtube video of Obama's speech: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iaQwbFvDK6I&eurl=http://gawker.com/5006621/barack-obamas-abercrombie-boys

Wonder why these three, dressed in these shirts with logos advertising the same corporation, were placed behind Obama during his televised speech. It's odd.

I'm sorry. I know you're still healing today, so I won't argue with you.

11. I imagine they're friends or coworkers who were supporting him & somehow got onstage there.
And don't worry about the few snark-heads here. No Obama supporter would take offense at your question unless they're just looking for an excuse to be offended.

13. Thanks, Bucky.
I think you're right...I just find it amazing that they pulled this off. Usually, screeners for both candidates are careful about who is filmed behind their candidate.

I bet they had jackets, and took off their jackets after they were seated.

5. LOL...
I know other people noticed, because I was talking to a friend last night, and as soon as the Obama speech began, he said "Are you watching this? Look at the guys in the A&F shirts behind him! What's with that?"

Yeah, they were obviously there to advertise...I just wonder how they got the seats they did. I think it's a funny story...I certainly hold no malice toward Obama about it.

It's just a funny thing.

7. I actually got the impression that those young men might have been Iraq vets
I really didn't make an issue of their clothing. But I did notice that the guy on the right, in the #54 t shirt, seemed to have a reaction when Obama mentioned things regarding the war and the troops in his speech. Almost as if it made him flashback to something he didn't want to think about. And it looked as though his friend in the gray t-shirt was checking to see if he was doing alright at that time. Male models? I don't think so.

26. This calls for a deep analysis of the marketing message on the t-shirts...

The first shirt immediately conjurs up the word "bitch", although in this campaign that word is deemed politically incorrect and perhaps better portrayed as an "F" word. The second shirt seems to illustrate the dichotomy of the extremes of the A and F grading scale used in the educational system up through college, established for the last 50 years or more. This represents the linear thinking that has gotten our nation into trouble and calls for a new way of thinking outside of the box. The third t-shirt can best be summarized as 'anarchical baseball', again established 50 years ago or more. This represents the game played by the military-industrial complex keeping the populace confused and scared while the treasury is being plundered. How's that for a political Rorschach response?

but college aged buddies where the same types of clothes, and at some point, a few of them are going to get behind a candidate. After joe the scab and intern killer pointed it out this morning, I kept noticing the three guys, even when the clip of them was unrelated to the story.

I'd say local campaign peeps weren't paying attention. If anything, it just shows Barack's people are tired, or they are not micro managing everything for show. In either scenario, nobody needs to be crucified it.

55. I totally noticed the one with the giant letters running down sideways
It was distacting. The A&F store here is about as obnoxious as can be. The loud music doesn't bug me so much, but they seem to be spraying perfume (cheap) into the street, and it's fairly dark inside with a kind of strobe effect going on. I know that (downtown Seattle) store is being replaced by an H&M in the fall.

You would think they'd vet that a little, though you would also think that people on stage, if they're going to wear branded gear, would be wearing a union jacket or shirt, something from their school, or something that would not just identify where they would from, but would imply some connection that's good for the candidate. I am not saying the campaigns should make them do this. I would think that the people on the stage would think it up for themselves.

And what's up with the huge logos? Someone here showed up last year in Polo stuff where the logo was about ten times bigger than it used to be and I thought it was a fake at first!
