Edited on Tue Apr-22-08 09:26 PM by sweets
how did she convince pennsylvanian's that she was born there?

Hillary Rodham was born in Chicago, Illinois on October 26, 1947 and grew up in Park Ridge. She is the daughter of Dorothy Rodham and the late Hugh Rodham. Her father had a drapery-making company in Illinois while her mother was a homemaker. During her youth Hillary Rodham was interested in different kinds of sports and also a Girl Scout and member of the local Methodist youth group. She was also already interested in politics. She has two younger brothers; Hugh and Tony.

After graduating from a public school in Park Ridge, Rodham Clinton attended Wellesley College. For a time she served as President of the College Republicans. Encouraged by Professor Alan Schechter, Hillary Rodham attended the Wellesley in Washington program and before long she became a dedicated Democrat. She wrote her thesis on leftist organizer Saul Alinsky. In 1969 Hillary Rodham earned her bachelor's degree in Political Science and graduated with honours. She was the first student ever at Wellesley College to be asked to hold the commencement speech at graduation day. When Hillary Rodham was 22 years old she entered Yale Law School where she in addition to her studies served on the Board of Editors of the Yale Review of Law and Social Action. It was at Yale she met her future husband, Bill Clinton, who was also a Yale student at the time.

53. Remember RFK?
I'm not comparing the late Robert Kennedy to Senator Hillary Clinton in any way... except to note that both of them moved from another state to New York, where they were elected to the US Senate, a platform from which they launched their White House campaigns.

So it's been done before, it's perfectly legal, and by all accounts both Mr. Kennedy and Mrs. Clinton won the majority of votes in the Empire State fair and square. In other words, I don't consider this an issue now any more than I did in 1968.

the state website has it 45.7/54.3. Shorthand 46/54. Or, specifically, 8.6% lead. round it to 9. Not double digit. Granted, still 1.5% to be counted.

http://www.electionreturns.state.pa.us/ElectionsInformation.aspx?FunctionID=13&ElectionID=27&OfficeID=1

Edited to add, most of the remaining outstanding seems to be in Chester, which seems to favor Obama.

In final push in Pa., Clinton puts emphasis on local roots

She was something much more elemental: the hometown gal.

Making her final campaign swing across the state, Clinton rested her fate in today's primary on the working-class voters who have been the bedrock of her campaign, believing her cultural affinity with them and tangible promises for a better future will earn their support at the polls.

Clinton came out on stage at the Scranton Cultural Center to John Mellencamp's "Small Town."

Clinton was not actually born here, but she cast herself as the next best thing, noting her grandfather's toils in the Scranton lace industry, childhood vacations at nearby Lake Winola, and marination in the "common-sense values" of middle America.

She is providing factually verifiable information. Unless you are ready to provide evidence that her grandfather did NOT toil in the Scranton lace industry, didn't vacation, etc. - and that her dad did NOT play for Penn State, then your claim is baseless and nothing Clinton said is untrue. If Obama had these facts on his side he would have played them exactly the same way. Evidence: Kansas, where he frequently reminded people his mother was from there.

54. More proof

<snip>

When Mrs. Clinton comes to Pennsylvania on Monday, her first visit to the state after winning Ohio and Texas last week, her first stop will be Scranton, where her familial ties extend deeper than they do in Park Ridge, Ill., the Chicago suburb where she grew up. Look for the image shapers to link the values of this gritty region — where her grandfather, descended from Welsh coal miners, raised his family — to her character and especially her perseverance.

“She’s tough,” Christopher Doherty, Scranton’s mayor, said in an interview. “That’s a real Scranton trait. That’s an anthracite trait.”

http://www.nytimes.com/2008/03/10/us/politics/10scranton.html

There's even a home movie, made by a neighbor posted on that site in which Hillary was 3 1/2 years of age. Plus, Hillary's father played football for Penn State. 'nough said.

LOL!

Barack was born in Hawaii and raised in Indonesia. He's a senator from Illinois.

This is just silly.

Wasn't Obama born in Hawaii? Should he denounce that state because he decided he'd prefers Illinois, politically?

No, she never told PA that she was from there, only that her grandfather lived in Scranton. But, I suppose, it is too much for you to handle the truth.

The more you guys are in denial, the harder you will fall.

Certainly showing roots in PA is preferable to a rootless rookie like Obama for many families in PA who can trace their ancestry several generations back.

60. For many voters it does. Same as whether s/he is a church goer
love this country and, yes, wear a flag pin and puts his hand on his heart while the national anthem is being played.

Yes, for most of us there are trivia that mask the real issues. But for many voters, these issues are important. Obama was born in Hawaii to a bi-racial and bi-national couple, was raised for a while in Indonesia, almost arbitrarily selected Chicago for his adult life. These things should not matter but they do, for many voters. Why, do you think, do the weekly news magazines come with cover story about the life of the major candidates? And TIME last week had it about Obama's mother?

62. But because BHO lived in Indonesia & visited Pakistan, he knows everything about

foreign affairs, far more than Clinton or McCain. :sarcasm:

BHO "forgot" to mention his visits to Kenya, where he has a bunch of family, which can probably be traced back for generations.

Do you suppose that's because we taxpayers paid for Obama's most recent trip and on that trip he spoke at rallies for his cousin Raila Odinga, who was running for president?

Or maybe it was because the U.S. State Department called Obama on the carpet as it was highly inappropriate for a U.S. Senator to go to another country and speak against its government, which is what Obama did. He also dressed up like a Somali elder on that trip, which was all Hillary Clinton's fault, somehow.

Or maybe it's because Raila Odinga lost the election in December and he and his supporters attempted a coup. Last I heard, over 700 people had been killed.

Or maybe Obama just doesn't want to draw attention to all the Muslim family he has in Kenya.
