Obama after losing last night's debate--badly: no more debates because I suck at them
WASHINGTON (CNN) -- Sen. Barack Obama on Thursday suggested he doesn't see any point in having another debate with Democratic rival Sen. Hillary Clinton.

Clinton has agreed to a debate next week, but Obama has not yet accepted the invitation.

At an appearance in Raleigh, North Carolina, Obama said he has a lot of campaigning to do in a limited amount of time.

Obama said he had agreed to an earlier debate, but Clinton declined that one.

His advisers must have told him he sucks at them and to bite the bullet and run from them...

Now that is the most laughable post of the day when everyone is
trying to convince Hillary to get out as all she is doing is causing damage to the party.

Try going to MSNBC and their poll on the debate.

You really need to get out of that fantasy land you are living in.

50. I would love a debate. We have had 21 NON-FRIGGIN-DEBATES!!!!
All we have had is basically an interview with dumb ass main stream media pundits who don't know their arse from a hole in the wall!

We listen to questions about lapel pins when our economy is in the tank, we are involved with two wars, our constitution is in peril and our health care system out of whack.

There was not a single question about health care last night. But a lot of time devoted to made in China lapel pins.

4. Oh fun! I LOVE cherry picking!!
"I'll be honest with you, we've now had 21," he said. "It's not as if we don't know how to do these things. I could deliver Sen. Clinton's lines; she could, I'm sure, deliver mine."

and then there is this:

"Last night we set a new record because it took us 45 minutes before we even started talking -- until we started talking about a single issue that matters to the American people," he said.

oh and this too:

Clinton hasn't commented on the debate.

And it was not tough questions on issues. It was tough question on character assassination memes.

It is hard to be substantive when you are asked crap about a lapel pin and whether your minister is as patriotic as you....was Hillary asked about her lack of a lapel pin and whether her minister is patriotic?

She got mostly easy soft balls. Obama had to spend his time defending his character.

15. I just don't think he likes being questioned about things.
Now, bear with me, because I am trying to make this objective commentary. He loves the big rallies, I think he is in love with his image, but for whatever reason, he gets a certain level of discomfort when he is questioned on specifics, his motivations, whatever. I sympathize with this because I hate it too, but then again, I didn't choose to run for office. He seems to bristle a little when pressed.

I have no idea if Hillary likes it or not, but she has learned to take it on the chin and she has certainly been so scrutinized and questioned her whole career that these situations are probably second nature by now.

And, for the record, they haven't debated each other 24 times. They rose out of the pool after 20 debates had played out, but I think it's completely legitimate to ask for one-on-one debates as if it's a clean slate.

Good on Obama.

If the Democrats have a lick of sense, they'll ensure that any future debates exclude the self-aggrandizing punditocracy.

Put them on PBS, and choose from the amazing amount of talent out there who run high school and college forensics programs.

And in the fall dare McCain (or ANY Republican) to show up on a neutral and incisive format.

38. I absolutely agree with that. It's as if no one even knows what a debate is.
If they aren't being asked the exact same questions, with the same number of rebuttals, then it's not a debate. Not to mention, in a real debate, you don't FLIP A COIN to see who goes first (except perhaps the first time). There is a set order.

We would be far better served by real debates.

76. If so, get ready for President McCain. Obama cannot win a general election.

He has divided the party and the country, with the help of the petty tyrant Howard Dean who, along with Donna Brazile, is trying desparately to throw the nomination to Obama.

Obama won red state primaries and caucuses, but can't win those states in the fall.

Dean thinks we Dems are like sheep and will all come home to the party but he is wrong. A lot of us will not vote for Obama, not because we are so in love with HRC we can't stand to see her lose, but because we think Obama would be a disaster as president.

Dean's insistence on deciding the nomination by July 1 is absurd. Dean is fighting against democracy.

If you win, you want that to be the image left in the populace's mind's eye. Because any politician knows that any such event is fraught with peril - no matter how good s/he is at it. That HRC is even suggesting it makes me think that she's not happy with the outcome.

Best solution. A compromise. Since the PA debate had a Clinton aide as one of the panelists, along with a representative of the Disney Corporation....co-sponsored by a committee that Hillary herself is a member of....let's have a NC debate with Olberman and an Obama aide as panelists! Good for goose, good for gander?

71.  jackson_dem, why not try a different tact?
Tell us why/how you think Hillary can still legitimately win the nomination and on what merits --- vs posting hit thread after hit thread on Obama.

We really know you don't like him - we got it.

Honestly, you (or I) are not changing any minds at this point.

I'd rather tell ya why Obama is going to win vs why Hillary is losing - but you have heard that already too (X 1000).

77. Well if the media is going to ask him about flag pins made in China
Obama has every right to decline these absurd debates.
