1. Anyone would be better than the MSM. They are fucking horrible.
Even Russert wasn't this bad, and that's saying something.

2. I remember that.
Granted I was very young, but I look back on those times fondly when I compare them to what we have now, which is basically tabloid crap.

6. I Posted This Earlier But Each Network That Hosts A Debate......
feels that they have to one up the other and make news and get the ratings. So the debate tonight is what you get when you don't have the likes of a League of Women Voters hosting.

Each network wants to be more outrageous than the last one. Tomorrow ABC will be strutting around and crowing about how tough they were on the Dem candidates - and especially Obama.

I just shudder to think of what Katie Couric will do when she moderates a debate. I think I heard that there will be one more debate hosted by CBS.

Is there anyway we can change this system where the networks moderate the debates?

7. I think that ended with Reagan.
I can't remember anything in the last 30 years that actually was a debate and actually addressed real issues that were important to real people.

10. What happened was this.. Those old (usually) ladies asked HARD questions
Edited on Wed Apr-16-08 10:53 PM by SoCalDem
and demanded answers..and they were substantive questions..not bullshit questions about stupid stuff..

What we have now are NOT debates..they are photo-op gotcha sessions..

there is really no need for "debates" anyway.. With the media saturation of today, there is ample time for anyone who is interested, to see about everything there is to see on any and all candidates..

Back before all the satellite and cable channels, there was a need to take some network time and intruduce the candidates to the public..

No need for that now.. they are all overexposed, if anything..these days.

11. They quit
When the Dem & Repub Party got together and created the Commission on Presidential Debates - the League of Women's Voters saw the writing on the wall and bowed out.

13. This debate should be the last straw. Debates need to be given back to a credible organization.
