Kerry to Infuse Message soon... (hints at VP pick?)
These are words to warm this loyal Clark-heart of mine.

http://news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&u=/washpost/20040614/pl_washpost/a39156_2004jun13

"Devine said the campaign is developing a positive message around the concept of "making America stronger at home and respected in the world. The challenge is to infuse meaning into this" in the months ahead with specifics.

Devine said there will be at least three opportune moments to do this: when Kerry names his running mate, which a top aide said will happen the first or second week in July; at the convention a few weeks later; and during debates with Bush this fall."

So, Kerry is looking to infuse his message, "stronger at home" and "respected in the world" through his VP pick. Hmmmm... I don't know about you, but I'm thinking of a VP who might just fit the bill.

Proceeding to the happy dance now...

8. Don't you rain on my parade
I just got my password back...tee hee...

And quite honestly, I'd be pleased with Edwards. I saw him speak at the JJ Dinner last weekend in Broward County and he was fairly engaging (a bit of the ol' stump speech, but very personable), but in all honesty, when I hear the phrase, "respected in the world" I think about all the foreign dignitaries that Clark has been rubbing elbows with as of late. Digging? Of course, but with all the stumping Clark had been doing stateside, I wondered why he was flying outside the US... and now me thinks MAYBE it's that "respected in the world" thing.

11. Edwards
I have never seen anyone who can give a stump speach like Edwards. WOW. You can tell he has trial lawyer roots. And he is a young, good looking guy. I just wish he has a little more experience.

14. I'll say this about Edwards
He has exemplary people skills, and a seemingly genuine interest in one-to-one connections. After he spoke, there were several people who went after him for pics and handshakes etc... What impressed me was how he "tuned out" his handlers. "This way Senator... we need to move on, Senator..." Now I heard them, the crowd heard them, but Edwards either didn't hear them, or ignored them. He shook hands, took pics, listened, engaged, and moved on only when taken by the arm and led away.

Experience does come with time and age, but I firmly believe we will have Edwards among us for a long time.

5. Still a mystery there
"Stronger at home"
"Respected in the world"

Clark fits the latter, but Edwards and Vilsak might fit the former. That said, it does look up for my pick...

I'll join you in the happy dance

7. They stole my word/idea----the word RESEPCT!
Edited on Mon Jun-14-04 03:05 PM by Gloria
Just posted about it again on another thread...
How Kerry needs a "keyword"--respect ...

Regaining RESPECT of the world

Respecting the ill, the poor, the elderly the environment...

THE LAW---domestic and international law..

RESPECT...don't know what it means to me....(Thank, Aretha....)

So, Kerry has to tell em!! Not only with regard to the world, but here at home, too

PS...Kerry said early on that his VP needed FOREIGN POLICY experience....

23. Kerry has said it
And I seem to recall Ted Kennedy saying early on that foreign policy experience was on of three criteria that Kerry considered absolutely critical. As in, he wouldn't seriously consider anyone without it.

24. you are exactly correct...
...it will not be Edwards, or anyone else without this key experience. In fact, JE strikes out again...one of the other criteria was someone that Kerry 'liked' and felt he could have a bond with...

27. Secure at home:
Edited on Mon Jun-14-04 06:02 PM by Donna Zen
It has been said that when Wes Clark sits down at the table he alone has the Pentium chip, while everyone else plays catch up with their Apple IIs. The person also said that Clark is very polite and waits for everyone else to catch up to where he was two hours before.

Cheer lead for your favorite. Absolutely, that is what this craziness is about; but conveniently forgetting that Clark holds a masters in economics from Oxford (not exactly chopped liver) ran, not watched, housing, schools, roads, and the equivalent of a small state for many years, and produced innovative domestic programs in but a few months, does everyone a disservice: both the repeater of the meme and the unwelcoming receiver.

Clark is Clark. A physics major turned foreign policy specialist. A CEO of an alternative energy company who happens to quote Dylan and Paine. A man who speaks four languages, but always relies on the most precise language to get his message across.

General Clark may not be your favorite, but you will never eclipse his brilliance with any quick quips. So don't doubt for a second that while he opposes the Patriot Act, he knows more than most about our economic and domestic security.

I want Clark in my government because right now my--our--country is in a pitiful mess. Needless to say, I want the most experienced, the brightest, and the best people in the halls of power. Kerry is a fine beginning for delivering that dream; I hope he is less influenced by hype and more inclined toward substance.

30. I'd be happy with Clark, but
when I see "specifics," am I crazy to hope that means Kerry will actually propose some substantive policies, rather than just groom the moment with momentum-building imageplay?

And before anybody creams me for saying that, yes, of course I know both are important. But the problem at the moment with moderates isn't that they are seeking a warm fuzzy. They are seeking to know what Kerry's real plan is. I follow fairly closely and *I* for one don't know. That aint a good sign.

I knew eactly what Clinton said he was going to do. I don't have the same feeling about Kerry, and in a challenger (think Reagan or Clinton) it's a necessity. The only case I can think of where a challenger unseated a sitting president on sheer image was Carter, and that didn't turn out very well.

32. Kerry Will Have A Message Focused Like A Laser Beam
at just the right time. He is a wicked good campaigner.

Noone is paying close attention now.

Waiting until just the right moment to come up with the "Message" is driving the GOP NUTS, cause they are only able to run a negative campaign and they have NO IDEA what Kerry's going to be saying.

In other words, Kerry has the element of surprise going for him.

And also, the political/economic situation may change in the US and the world over night.

35. I think you will see substantial specifics....
...AND image play. The image play will undoubtedly be War Heroes vs. Two Zeros, and it will be spectacular. The substance will be detailed and will tackle Bush head on. It is a delicate game to release details...you don't want to flood the media with too much information in one sitting because they will always, always miss something...and you also do not want to give the opposition your full hand of cards.

I don't think the term 'feel good' is what moderates and indys want--I totally agree. Most want to be assured that they will be safe and secure in the world (which clearly we are now not), and they want to trust the President and Vice President can do this. Kerry indeed has a long way to go on this, but if he does choose Clark, it will be the first step in refocusing 'fear' (created by this administration) to confidence in Kerry/Clark.

Any one notice that Charles Rangel's fundraiser, "A Four Star Salute to Wesley K. Clark" is taking place in NYC on June 28th?

Bringing attention to Clark right before the July 4 weekend... bringing attention to Clark in the city of the GOP convention (okay, bigger stretch, but I'm having fun...)
