26 Former U.S. Officials Oppose Bush

FROM: http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&u=/ap/20040614/ap_on_el_pr/diplomats_letter&cid=694&ncid=1963&sid=96378798
WASHINGTON - Angered by Bush administration policies they contend endanger national security, 26 retired U.S. diplomats and military officers are urging Americans to vote President Bush (news - web sites) out of office in November.

The group, which calls itself Diplomats and Military Commanders for Change, does not explicitly endorse Democrat John Kerry (news - web sites) for president in its campaign, which will start officially Wednesday at a Washington news conference.

The Bush-Cheney campaign said Sunday it would have no response until the group formally issues its statement at the news conference.

Among the group are 20 ambassadors, appointed by both Democratic and Republican presidents, other former State Department officials and military leaders whose careers span three decades.

My take: hope this doesn't get downplayed because of the "torture memo" - some folks think this is going to break real soon.

1. This would be a great time to announce Clark for VP.
There were 55 ambassadors who endorsed Clark for Pres. Put the McCain idea away and seize on the publicity showing Bush's failures.

5. BushCo already blunting the statement:
The protest comes after a poll released last week by the Los Angeles Times revealed that 58 per cent of Americans believe the country is on the wrong track - the highest number since Mr Bush took office.

Nonetheless, Mr Bush may be able to blunt the criticism somewhat, as he has recently achieved his greatest success in reaching out to the international community following the divisive decision to go to war in Iraq.

He last week won unanimous approval from the United Nations Security Council for a resolution that recognises a new interim Iraqi government chosen with considerable input from the US.

Mr Bush also secured a series of photographs with foreign leaders during a visit to Europe to commemorate the 60th anniversary of the D-Day invasion, and at last week's G8 summit in Georgia that aides hope will convince voters of the president's abilities as a statesman.

This last line is so funny... "convince voters of the president's abilities as a statesman." BWAHAHAHAHAHAHA!
