WP Wonders Why Bush Doesn't Benefit from Economy
Read it here, though you must be registered.

My comment: The war in Iraq is part of it. But people are unhappy because the economy isn't as great as the hype has been from the press.

The number of Americans who are underemployed is still high (and likely climbing). Beyond that, most of those new jobs are the low-paying sort with no benefits that do nothing to sustain a healthy middle class.

I also wonder if the economic reports are entirely honest. I read an article by Jim Hightower, who found part of the March "boom" in jobs was the result of those California supermarket workers returning to work from the picket lines. When they returned to their jobs, the White House claimed those 50,000 existing jobs as part of the new job creation for that month.

In short, the recovery is a joke. People are still getting screwed, and they know the West Wing Weasel has much to do with it.

One side note: my brother-in-law finally found a decent job after four months of unemployment and a much longer period of underemployment. He took it out on W in his blog, writing "Take that you tight lipped, chimp faced sack of crap!"

1. Because they are fudging the numbers and lying through their teeth!

Burger flipper doesn't substitute for a lost IT job....

Figure it out, morons!

Oh wait, we are talking about coporate Bush cheerleaders here, not real journalists...my bad.

2. In short,
The WP is wondering why the propaganda is not working. Gee whiz , the economy is great from where they sit, so why aren't the yokels buying that it's great everywhere. Doh

3. Folks know the truth
they look around their own town and see who is hiring, who is shutting down. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to understand that the huge jump in gas prices have made a dent in everyone's wallets, and that spending that would have gone to other things has to be curtailed. Right now, I see two established furniture stores closing in the town where I work. I'm waiting to see who closes next.

4. OMG are people really this stupid?
During the Clinton years, Jeremy Tuck said he had been selling mobile homes in Tuscaloosa, Ala., and, at $45,000 a year, making good money. Last year, he was assembling mobile homes, earning $15,000 and living hand-to-mouth. But Bush has his vote this November. Had Gore been elected in 2000, Tuck said, "we would've been taken over by Saddam Hussein or bin Laden."

"You make more money in plain terms when Democrats are in office," Tuck said with a shrug, "but Republicans are stronger on the military, and that's why I'm voting for President Bush."

Why is this writer quoting the dumbest f*cking person he talked to?

7. Jeremy Tuck
is just a representative dumb ass. Anyone who believes that if the democrats were in office we would have been taken over by Saddam or Bin Ladden has no brains--afterall were we taken over under Clinton? But there are lots of that type out there--and mostly under educated white men.

5. My story
I had a great job, good benies too. That was until 2/02.

Follow that with 14 months of unemployment.
Got a job as a cashier at a fucking hardware store.
Took a 10k dollar pay cut to do it too. No medical for 180 days.
They fired me after 178 days, surprise surprise.
Another four months of unemployment.
Get another shitty job making the same amount.
Except now I get to drive farther... Across a bridge too.
And my employer is so broke he can't afford to give me a raise.
Or medical.
Or a company vehicle so I can actually drive out to install stuff.

I don't have a degree, can't afford one with the rents in this area. Getting ready to join the Navy, cause nobody is hiring for people with my skills.

But Bush doesn't want you to know about people like me. He wants you to hear about the fact that I got a job. Not that it took me 14 months, whereas before that it took me two weeks. Not that I had to take a pay cut. Not that I didn't get medical. Not that I lost it six months later.

Hey Bush. I've got a message for you. You cost me over 30k dollars. You destroyed my quality of life. And I am very... VERY... *VERY* Upset about that.

6. Maybe cause they are based
on cooked numbers and don't even hide the fact that they care ONLY for the superwealthy and their corporate puppetmasters. The vast majority in this Country are far worse off and NO amount of media shilling is going to change that.
