BREAKING: Hillary Clinton lies about being named Hillary Clinton
NEW YORK (AP) - Sources today are speculating that Hillary Clinton has not been accurate about her name. Although Sen. Clinton (D-NY) has told the American public that her name is Hillary, her birth certificate indicates that her name is actually Slagathore Rodham.

"My God," Clinton said in response to the revelation. "What is the problem with that? Who would want to use that name when working in public life?"

Republican radio talk show hosts pounced on the new discrepancy as yet another example that Sen. Clinton is not candid on the campaign trail. "If we really wanted to know the real Hillary Clinton, all we need to do is look at her birth certificate: Slagathore," radio talk show host Rush Limbaugh said.

Officials of the Obama campaign issued a press release claiming that Sen. Clinton cannot be trusted. "At the next debate, we want Sen. Clinton to come forward with how she wishes to be addressed," the release states. "So what is it, Sen. Clinton: Hillary or Slaggy?"

Sen. Barack Obama (D-IL) appeared taken aback by the report. "Four score and about two and a half years ago, beneath the great Oak of Congressional Reverie, I met a fellow Democrat named Sen. Hillary Clinton. Now I find that the Oak has been tainted with bitter rain. And instead of a Hillary I have found a Slagathore."

Democratic voters waiting for the fast approaching Pennsylvania primary are unsure what to make of the Hillary's discrepancy.

"I just lost my job yesterday," Scranton resident Ernestine Fowler said. "I don't care if her name is Rumplebumkin, I want someone to fix the economy."

The Pennsylvania primary is on April 22nd.

1. I would feel more favorable to HRC were her name Slagathore.
So I suspect that this is really disinformation released to the media by the Clinton campaign. ;-)

2. This could be hilarious had Newsweek not come with a similar story
that makes me seriously considering canceling my subscription.

The "story" was that Bill's was married to four different women: Hillary Rodham, etc.

3. Well, she definitely lied about WHY she was named "Hillary"
She claimed she was named after Sir Edmund Hillary, who climbed Mt Everest. Only problem is that she was born about 6 years before that, when Sir Edmund was a beekeeper in New Zealand, and not exactly a household name in the US.

4. Well, technically she was named after him
So was anyone who was born after he was. You were named after him, as was I.

7. No, it's a joke
Abraham Lincoln said the same thing when asked if Lincoln, Nebraska was named after him.

8. Mt. Everest was not the first mountain he had climbed either.

From one of his bios.

"Sir Edmund Hillary was born in 1919 and grew up in Auckland, New Zealand. It was in New Zealand that he became interested in mountain climbing. Although he made his living as a beekeeper, he climbed mountains in New Zealand, then in the Alps, and finally in the Himalayas, where he climbed 11 different peaks of over 20,000 feet. By this time, Hillary was ready to confront the world's highest mountain."

In other words, he was more than just a beekeeper and no doubt was already known in some circles. Hillary's parents may very easily have known about him before she was born and may very easily have named her after him.

11. To be fair, "Hillary" is the phonetic spelling of "Slagathore" ...
... and ANYONE has the inalienable (and legal) right to define the way their own name is to be pronounced.

15. So in this pronunciation
The "Slag" is prounounced as an H, the "a" is pronounced with the "i" sound in "pill," the "th" is really an L sound, the "o" is a schwa, the "r" is said as an R, and the "e" is prounounced.

Makes as much sense as Welsh. :P
