Obama Prepares Argument to Discard Public-Financing Principle
Tonight at a fundraiser in Washington, D.C., at the National Museum of Women in the Arts -- at a $2,300-per-person event for 200 people held before a $1,000-per-person reception for 350 people -- Obama previewed his argument to justify this possible future discarding of a principle.

"We have created a parallel public financing system where the American people decide if they want to support a campaign they can get on the Internet and finance it, and they will have as much access and influence over the course and direction of our campaign that has traditionally been reserved for the wealthy and the powerful," Obama said.

Personally I think it's a great idea for him to stay with his method. If he doesn't officially get the nomination, even if Hillary drops out sometime in May or June, he could take public funding in September, after he "officially" becomes the nominee, correct? But use the money that people have been giving hi online through the summer?

Also, I doubt anyone really cares about whether he said he would do public financing or not...

2. fuck public financing. mccain took it when he realized he needed it.

then when his luck changed so did his position, as it does on everything else he fuckin runs on. fuck mccain. obama should just do what hes doing regardless of any commitment he made with mccain -- its obvious mccain wouldnt have stuck to principle if the shoe were on the other foot.

when this was first brought up a while back, here was mccains comment:

"We either keep our word or we don't keep our word. I intend to keep my word to the American people..."

the obama camp response:

Obama's spokesman, Bill Burton, hit back: "John McCain is in no place to question anyone on pledges when he abandoned the latest campaign finance reform efforts in order to run for the Republican nomination and went back on his commitment to take public financing for the primary election this year."

my money is on fuck mccain and his charade. mccain is a fake.

as a guy on another forum eloquently put it:

"McCain's down 3 touchdowns at the start of the 4th quarter and he's requesting a draw. Too late, buddy."

3. Your quote indicates that Mccain didn't take public financing.
I agree there's no need for Obama to go with public financing. He'll catch hell for it, but ultimately the pros outweigh the cons.

4. yes, he didnt after he had already agreed to take it. thats why hes in hot water over it now...
because he used the promise of public financing to get a loan for his campaign. thats what makes this issue so funny. if mccain tries to raise this as a campaign issue, he will look like a huge hypocrite, itll backfire for sure. if he tries to pull this, itll either work out in obamas favor, or have no impact whatsoever.

5. And the Obama campaign needs to make sure that this fact is noted....
How McCain changed his mind......maybe even too late. That should shut McCain up.

7. McSame made the same decision.
Special interest groups have a big influence in elections and Obama wants free television and radio time as a way to reduce this influence while with public financing.
