Quinnipiac University Poll: Bush 45% approval rating/ Kerry-Bush tied 45%
A new Quinnipiac Poll gives Bush a 45% approval, 50% disapproval rating.

In a two way race Kerry and Bush are tied 45-45, with Ralph Nader, Bush has a one-point edge
42% Kerry
43% Bush
6% Nader

But this is up from a 3-point Bush lead with Nader included just three weeks ago.

Only 41% of Americans are very or somewhat satisfied with the way things are going in the country while 58% are somewhat or very dissatisfied. Over one-third, or 34% are Very dissatisfied.

Dick Cheney has a 40/43 approval/disapproval rating
Rumsfeld has a 47/43 approval/disapproval rating

In a three way race, Kerry gets 79% of the Democratic vote, Bush 8% and Nader 5%.

Bush receives 89% of the GOP vote, Kerry 6% and Nader 3%.

Among Independents Kerry leads Bush 43-36 with 9% favoring Nader.

Bush has a 40/39 favorable rating with 81% of republicans holding Bush in favorable regard.

Kerry has a 26/29 favorable/unfavorable rating with 29% mixed. Only 59% of Democrats have a favorable impression of Kerry--28% of Dems are mixed.

they ask "who would you rather have a backyard BBQ with?" Bush wins 50/39 over Kerry. Democrats would rather BBQ with Kerry 74-16, but Independents choose Bush 49-37. Hopefully people won't vote based on who they want to have a BBQ with!

1. "Hopefully people won't vote based on who they want to have a BBQ with!"
Not this time. We tried that last time and look where we are.

3. Maybe they want to burn him at the stake
How in the name of god could you want to have a bbq with somebody who is as big a fuckup as the country says this guy is? What the hell are people thinking? Would they just want to invite him to laugh at the next stupid thing he says? How many times does this guy have to spit right in our faces before the people in this country understand that he's just NOT a good guy?

5. Think you're disappointed now?
With all due respect, it's this kind of romantic idealism that could stick us with 4 more years, 4 more wars, a police state, and a right wing society as far as the eye can see. If Nader pulls anything close to 10% of the anti-Bush vote, Kerry is in deep trouble, and this is especially so in several of the western states you have in mind that could be crucial to Kerry (Nevada, Oregon, Colorado, maybe New Mexico).

Kerry may not be a leftist, but the realistic choice we face as a nation is between the most incompetent and evil administration this country has ever had and a decent, competent, modestly progressive government that could begin to right the sinking ship of state. The perfect is the enemy of the good, and that's assuming Nader (who has no experience in government, no international or foreign policy expertise, and no significant political alliances with the middle and rational right) is somehow perfect.

If Nader gets a significant number of votes and costs Kerry the election, or even a mandate, those who support Nader will be guilty of the most egregious narcissism and naivete. Nader's support comes from a privileged, educated segment of society, aloof in their volvos and whole foods markets. A large number of less privileged Americans will be utterly screwed by 4 more years of * (and indeed would probably be screwed by the gridlock that would ensue in a Nader administration, which is of course an impossibility.)

What's more, the WHOLE FREAKING WORLD is counting on a majority of Americans to size up the global state of emergency the current misadministration has fomented and DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT FAST! Why, historically, American progressives have been so willing to shoot themselves and their country in the foot over pretentious idealism is simply beyond me. There has never been a hard left government in this country, and there won't be in our lifetimes. We do face, however, the current and impending crisis of the most hard right -- indeed fascist -- government in the history of this nation.

Nader supporters, get your heads out of your asses. A vote for Nader in this election is not only narcissistic, foolish, naive, and pretentious. It is unpatriotic and nihilistic. Kerry is not Bush-lite. Not even close. Bush's first term has been "Bush-lite" because the right has nourished the dream of re-election and dynasty. Unleashed from that consideration, Bush will become Bush-heavy. The ramifications for the supreme court, police powers, militarization, the dismantling of what remains of our social safety net, unbridled corporate power, and environmental devastation are unimaginable. And then you can count on enough gerrymandering and manipulation that we are sure to see President Frist, or perhaps President DeLay, or President Jeb, a GOP-extremist controlled congress, and a completely quiescent mass media for the next few decades. We do not have the luxury of voting our bumper-sticker politics this time.

If Nader draws enough to cost Kerry this election he will go down in history as a criminal. And his supporters will go down in history as fools.

14. I'd only have a BBQ with Bush if Bush and Cheney were on the spit
Of course they both deserve a fate worse than that.

9. Some misunderstood the ?: Who'd you rather barbecue?
Notice, Quinnipiac corrected the 2000 "who'd you have a beer with?" considering W doesn't dring ;-)
A Diebold poll if I ever saw one.

10. Quinnipiac
is always biased against democrats. I've noticed this for a while now. Some claim their accurate, but they seem to be schilling.

Either way these, "who do you want to be a buddy with" polls are about as ridiculous as they get.

After this "buddy" president (and frankly I found him to be an arrogant prick), I want someone competant and capable -- I'm sure I'm not the only one.

11. Rumsfield has a higher approval rating than Bush? Go figure.
Sometimes I think half the people in the U.S. aren't paying attention to anything except what is on sale at Walmart.
