To Kerry's credit, he looks like a president
If I weren't concerned about issues, and simply voted based on the guy who looks most like someone who should be president, I'd go for Kerry over the wierd, smirky guy. I think that's why Kerry will win. I don't particularly like Kerry, but he's got the right image, and that's what people respond to.

3. I don want someone who...
"Looks" like a President. I want someone who ACTS like a President, for all the people.

My vote will not be predicated on criteria not unlike that of voting for homecoming king and queen.

I hope yours is not either.

5. I don't think it is
If the guy is posting here, chances are good that's he/she is informed about the issues. I happen to agree that Kerry does look more Presidential.

To an extent, looks do matter to a leader. If you look like you know what your doing, people are more likely to believe that you do.

6. Don't be silly

For most of the electorate, the vote is about comfort. That's why attack ads are successful: they erode the perception of a candidate's character to such an extent that the casual voter goes the other way. Dukakis was obliterated by attack ads, as was Bush Sr. in '92.

Kerry so far has been bulletproof, and that's very rare for a Dem candidate -- only Clinton and Reagan in recent memory had the same degree of teflon charm armor as Kerry, and Kerry has the additional advantage that he doesn't have the pathological urge to play hide the sausage every 15 seconds.

Kerry looks Presidential. Good. We need all the arrows we can shoot come November.

13. The original poster said...
"If I weren't concerned about issues..." That should indicate that he's well aware of why Kerry would be the better choice even if he had three eyes and no nose.

4. Yep, I'm beginning to see it, too
And hear it. The other day I was listening to tv with my back turned and Kerry was talking. I actually found myself thinking, "That's a President's voice."

He's beginning to take on the persona. God, I can't wait until January.

7. He looks like Lincoln. But I don't think that is a bad thing
as Lincoln is a revered President.

18. Hey, I really get tired of southern bashing
I live in the south, was born in the south, and have never lived anywhere else. We were taught all about Abraham Lincoln in every school I attended. I grew up revering him, as have most southerners. Uncalled for generalization, IMHO. Honestly, it's not just southerners who won't forget the War Between the States.

20. Beggin' y'all's pardon....
We are all pretty fond on him down here too....
Not all of us would have betrayed the union and forsaking the rightful power of a federal Govt to contain or end horrors of slavery.

Complete with the stovepipe hat and everything. Just flaunt it.

10. The mental image of him saying, "I, John Forbes Kerry, do solemnly...
... swear that I will execute the duties of the office of President of the United States of America..." next January 20th doesn't have that bizarre sense of 'what's wrong with this picture?', like it does with * saying those same words.

I was at the California Democratic convention in LA and Kerry spoke.

15. Most Pres.looking since Kennedy
If you go through the recent list hardly a Presidential looking type in the bunch: Bush II (give me a break), Clinton (great Pres. but as they say, looked like the guy in college who tapped the kegs), Bush I (borderline Pres. looking, a little wimpy though), Carter (toothy grin, country boy, certainly not your typical Pres. face), Ford (not too bad, a little too awkward), Nixon (Pres. look, maybe, but a bit ugly), Johnson (close, but that drawl was a bit much), Kennedy (OK now we're talking).

Kerry defintely has a face Mt. Rushmore could love.

Edited on Sun May-23-04 10:48 PM by zulchzulu
I'd say that he is a natural. I'd also say he is seriously the Real Deal. He's a cool dude who know his stuff.

America will be in good hands with Kerry at the helm. It's about time we started off this new century with someone who will be seen historically as one of the best Presidents this country has ever had.

The World waits for our regime change.
