USA Today: "Bush to launch new anti-Kerry ad blitz"
http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&cid=710&ncid=710&e=1&u=/usatoday/20040521/pl_usatoday/bushtolaunchnewantikerryadblitz

"President Bush's campaign will accuse Sen. John Kerry of "playing politics with national security" in a TV ad assault that begins next week."

"Bush's job-approval rating has dropped to 46%, the lowest of his presidency, in the wake of the Iraq prisoner-abuse scandal. He went to Capitol Hill on Thursday to reassure Republicans that he has plans to diminish U.S. responsibilities in Iraq and emphasize the improving U.S. economy.

Some Republicans have fretted that Bush has lost ground to Kerry by being too passive. "This is the Bush campaign getting back on offense, and it's a bit overdue," says Scott Reed, a Republican strategist.

The new 30-second ad, obtained by USA TODAY, will air starting Tuesday in 19 states. It says Kerry, "pressured by fellow liberals," changed his position on the Patriot Act. Kerry voted for the legislation, which passed 45 days after the Sept. 11 attacks. It gives federal agents more power to spy on citizens and non-citizens while hunting terrorists, permits the CIA and FBI to share evidence."

18. The last blitz worked to ingrain the "flip-flop" mantle on Kerry
even if it didn't boost Bush's numbers, it did paint Kerry negatively. That's why Kerry isn't drubbing Bush in the polls right now.

14. I think this one will backfire big time
If the wording in quotes above are actually going into the commercial Bush is in trouble because telling people outright that The Patriot Act allows agencies to spy on citizens makes it sound worse and for a lot of people that aren't completely aware of The Patriot Act or politics in general that might scare them a bit.

That wording will kill them I guarantee it.

6. Bush really thinks this kind of stuff will work?
he doesn't give up--he will keep up the soft on national defense thing against Kerry even though mounting evidence is showing how Bush himself mismanged national security and has gotten us bogged down in Iraq on personal vendetta.

7. Smells of desperation.
It's stale and predictable. It might solidify his existing support or sow a few doubts, but I'd prefer he shoot his wad now rather than later. People will become inured to this stupidity.

9. Good thing Bush never plays politics with national security.
Like pretending Iraq did 9/11 before the 2002 elections. Like implying Democrats are terrorists. I could go on and on.

12. Bring it on
go ahead Shrubnick, burn all your money in May on attack ads that bounce off of Kerry. No harm done, just like his last silly attack ads.

15. Yes! Waste that money George, waste it all!!
Since his recent ad campaigns have done little to prevent his 'drip drip drip' slide in the polls... I'm sure this round will do the same job. Actually, if it opens the door to start discussion regarding the Patriot Act, I can only imagine that it will work in Kerry's favor.

So, Bush, let's have an open public discussion regarding The Patriot Act, shall we?

16. Great news.
If the Bush campaign does nothing but continue to repeat the same unconvincing message over and over, this election won't be close after all.
