2. I second the motion to make Gephardt Secretary of Labor.

He is an able and decent man and a terrific advocate. His speeches on the floor of the House of Representatives were passionate and persuasive.

I was sorely disappointed that he stood with Bush in the Rose Garden, but I think he did it to protect his fellow House members from charges of "not being patriotic" in the mid-term elections. Bush demeaned the presidency by making "patriotism the last refuge of scoundrels--the GOP thugs!
