MSNBC: Obama-Bloomberg ticket has potential (from huffingtonpost)
I didn't see this posted anywhere else. Here's a link to the huffingtonpost.com article:

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2008/03/27/obamabloomberg-ticket-m_n_93699.html

The advantages to Obama seem obvious - Bloomberg's seen as an independent, more moderate, older, etc. And of course he's Jewish, which would put to rest the silly guilt-by-association canard. (Don't we all have friends and/or family members who we're close to, communicate with at least once a week, and who have some political (or other) views we think pretty reprehensible? Well, all of us except RushSeanBillo.)

On the other hand, Bloomberg's not Hispanic, not from the South or West. And I'm sure there are other negatives there.

But at least they'd clearly identify the one demographic they wouldn't get any votes from, and I don't think they'd double the loss.

:)

1. Bloomberg would be popular enough in the South,
particularly with independents.

2. Why would Bloomberg be popular in the south? Maybe in suburban Atlanta where
they vote dollars more than anything.

6. He would also be popular in different centers in my state (NC),
particularly the triangle, Charlotte, Highpoint/Greensboro and similar areas. I think he would fine with people in Virginia as well.

11. The problem in a lot of these southern states is how we get creamed outstate.
We generally do fine in the major urban areas, but that rarely proves to be enough. In Virginia it has in state elections, but that's a rare case.

4. Bloomberg is saying on MSNBC that the Wright story has to be further addressed by Obama
check it out when the reports come down. Says GOP will be harder on him on the issue.

5. And I'm sure there are other negatives there.
No foriegn policy experience would probably be the biggest negative.

That and the fact that Bloomberg became a Republican so he could run uncontested in the primary leading up to him becoming mayor of NYC.

The GOP (and our owm militant Dems) would have a field day about Obama selecting a Republican for his VP.

15. Right..that's numero uno, although, I
think Obama is going to have plenty of excellent Foreign Policy advisers around him as he does now. And, there's that huge plus of Obama's good judgement on Day One that has served him in the past.

Like in October, 2002. http://www.barackobama.com/2002/10/02/remarks_of_illinois_state_sen.php

Nobody outside of NY cares about Bloomberg except the MSM.

9. I don't like it
His running mate needs to be a Dem. And it needs to be someone who would be willing to carry on his ideas, which I think would make it less likely that someone would make an attempt on Obama's life. Bloomberg is absolutely not that guy. Big business would like him too much, and I would fear for Obama's safety. I'm sure this sounds ridiculous to many, but I am certain that big money will stop at nothing to further greed.

10. There's good and bad.
Good:
Bloomy would be considered an expert on the economy
Bloomy is very intelligent and likable.
He'd be a nice match with Obama.
He'd work his ass off.
More left-liberal than Obama
More money than God
Cross Party appeal

Bad
No national security experience
Poor demographic match up (geographically, religiously)
Not an expert debater of national issues
Pisses off gun nuts
Not totally a Democrat
Not a tough guy

I personally like Bloomberg, even with his right wing donations. But I'm a NYer, so I'm biased.

"...the first mainstream African-American who is articulate and bright and clean and a nice-looking guy,"

13. It's very unlikely, imho. Bloomberg likes DOING stuff and being in charge. VP doesn't get you that
A cabinet position is more likely -- imho, that's what Bloomberg would prefer over VP.
