Kerry K.O.'s Bush (CNN/Time Poll)
I'm surprised DU hasn't been buzzing with these numbers sooner as opposed to the usual doom and gloom... wait, not I'm not that surprised.
------------------------------------
**snips***

That development appears to be helping Sen. John Kerry, the presumptive Democratic presidential nominee. He wins the support of 51 percent of likely voters, compared to 46 percent for Bush. In

Kerry and Bush are essentially tied over who would handle Iraq better -- 46 percent to 43 percent.

Bush appears to have an advantage over Kerry on the war on terrorism with 49 percent saying he would do a better job, compared to 42 percent for Kerry. He also had the edge in "moral values" -- 46 percent to 42 percent.

On the question of who would do a better job, Kerry had big leads on health care, protecting the environment, reducing the deficit and reducing unemployment.

But even in the fight against terrorism -- one of Bush's strengths in many polls -- this poll showed a split over whether Bush is doing a good job. Forty-six of those polled said he was, but 47 percent said he was doing a poor job.

1. So, Kerry wins if people think the most important issues are
jobs, deficit, environment and health care, and if he can close the gap on terror a little (without people thinking it's the most important issue, unless he reverses the numbers) and if Iraq holds steady?

3. Kerry leads bush over Iraq for the 1st time
and is very close on the terrorism front.

For an incumbent wartime president this is incredible a challenger is doing so well in May!?

2. Polls don't mean a damn thing.
The only poll that means anything at all happens in November. Never forget that.

4. This is fantastic news!!!
I too was wondering why that hasn't been more discussion of the (newly released) CNN TIME poll on DU. This poll appears to be consistent with the numbers from the PEW poll (yesterday) that Judy the shrew Woofwoof downplayed yesterday.

The results of all the negative news and images from Iraq and Kerry's running his well crafted ads in the 'so-called' battleground states have helped Kerry get his message out. I knew as soon as he began to tell his story the numbers would begin to turn around for him.

It appears that all the squawking and whining from the Washington establishment appears to be premature. (One has to wonder how completely out of touch some in that crowd are.) Nonetheless, this will be a bitter fight, and we can't let up for a second!

6. I agree, not time to get comfy yet
But this is a clear sign that America is starting to turn on shrub and Kerry is being seen as an acceptable alternative (an exceptional alternative imo).

I'm tired of the many RNC posts about Kerry not gaining on Bush, Kerry has no vision, I don't like Kerry blah blah blah.

We finally have some solid proof Kerry is doing a historic job in this race and he should be praised.

Go Kerry.

5. And nothing on the horizon to change the trend.
The more the Iraq debacle drags on and the costs of Iraq becomes common knowledge, the more erosion in Bush's polling. More and more public discourse on the Presidential election will favor Kerry. A lot of Bush support is built on the preception that he's a "winner". As this meme is busted, his support will erode, too.

Kerry will get a boost when his nominee is announced, from the convention, and from the debates. I hope Kerry also announces his entire cabinet well before the election because this will help the House/Senate elections, too.

I want to see a 65-35 rout in November....I think it will be doable.

8. 65-35? No way, not by a long shot. Kerry could get 55% tops.
"I want to see a 65-35 rout in November....I think it will be doable".

Nixon got 61%, LBJ 60%, Ike 58% in blowouts.

Kerry may get 55% - tops. That is still a blowout.

10. You have no faith TIA.........
In Bush's ability to continue his complete mismanagement of his Office and the impact of all the scandels that are piling up. Really, who knows how low it can go. I suspect that 35% is the absolute floor, but breaking 40 definitely could happen, popular vote wise.

7. This was an impressive poll.
While polls in and of themselves are not fully accurate, they do indicate trends in thinking. The talking heads had been saying that though bush had three bad weeks, Kerry was not benefitting from it. Ha! It takes time for events to sink in and change peoples' minds. This poll had a series of questions that strongly indicated significant trends in Kerry's favor. The democrats and the other left-thinking people are uniting in an effort to remove bush & cheney from office. If the trend continues, as many people believe it will, Kerry will beat bush by a greater margin than Clinton did Bush #1. It's a sign that our hard work is paying off. We need to pick up the pace, however, because the even dirtier tricks are beginning.

11. When Candy Crowley was interviewing...
Terry McAuliffe(spelling?) on CNN today she was downplaying the polls and said, and I'm paraphrasing here, that the numbers aren't permanent and could change in Bush's favor before the election.

When the segment was over she didn't even thank Terry for being on the show, which I thought was rude.
