Rumor--but take it with a grain of salt
I have a friend who works with the RNC, yes he is a repuke, but we are friends anyway--but he is very realistic about the current political situation and in an e-mail told me that he has heard from "good sources" that if Bush's situation doesn't improve in the next month or so that a change in the political team will be forthcoming--with Karl Rove either out or demoted and that old reliable repuke man for all seasons, Jim Baker, in.

I don't know if this would likely happen but it would be hilarious.

1. They always go to Baker
when things look bleak for the BFEE. This would not be the least bit surprising.

18. Baker is representing Saudis against 9/11 families
that would be great.

Baker is representing the Saudi government in suits brought by 9/11 families.

The symbolism alone makes Baker perfect.

He is one slick evil bastard though.

13. You Are So Right, But
Democrats are not going to sit down and take it from Baker.

He might be beloved by republicans for delivering Florida to Bush, but he is hated more by democrats for doing so.

14. true, but
I remember in August of '92 they made him quit as Secretary of State to manage Poppy's floundering campaign. He was underwhelming, as he generally is when he doesn't have five judges in his pocket.

Kerry retracted his plan to put Baker in charge of the ME >>

http://www.johnkerry.com/pressroom/clips/news_2004_0301h.html
<snip>
John Kerry met privately with 50 Jewish leaders yesterday amid concerns about whom he would pick as a Mideast envoy and his stand on Israel's security, sources said.

The Democratic front-runner assured the group that, contrary to a speech he gave in December, he wouldn't seek out former President Jimmy Carter or former Secretary of State James Baker as his envoys, sources said.

Baker already has an office at the whitehouse >>

http://www.alternet.org/story.html?StoryID=18513
<snip>
And Baker has just opened a new office ... at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue. This is a White House first: the first time a lobbyist for the oil industry will have a desk right next to the President's. Baker's job, to "restructure" Iraq's debt. How lucky for his clients in Saudi Arabia. The Kingdom claims $30.7 billion due from Iraq.

Regardless of what you think of him, he is a very quality person to be heading the campaign. I have all the respect in the world for him when it comes down to the strategy of the campaign. He is not a light weight.

They can kiss the Jewish vote good bye if this happens. He also orchestrated the Florida debacle. THAT is still fresh in our minds. I think bringing Baker into this is EXACTLY what the chimp should do. He'll put the final nail in his coffin. Go ahead chimpy, you asshole!
