"I'm John Kerry, and I oppose the use of torture by our armed forces."

backed by suitable visuals from Abu Ghraib.

How difficult would it be to get him to do this?

Edit: For maximum impact, intercut the prison footage with scened of Rumsfeld, Bush*, et al. trying to brazen their way out of it.

1. May not be a smart thing to do....
The topic is really a political hot potato, one that's better held by Shrub. It might be best to accentuate that he would be more proactive to the going ons of the situation. Let them hang themselves, they started this unnecessary war.

7. how many times have we been sure
that they were ready to hang themselves, only to have the issue at hand vanish? Why are we so ready to believe that *this* is the time that we have only to sit back and watch?

2. Implicit
Bush is "against" the use of torture and so is Kerry. Its better to distance himself from it and let Bush deal with the damage.

This is an issue that is solely Bush.

3. Let the Chimp and Rummy boil in the soup for a while more
They are doing a fabulous job at destroying themselves.

Keep our powder dry and watch them sink their own ship.

5. There is an approach...
but that isn't it.

He should connect the policy makers that created the environment for atrocities in Vietnam to today's policy makers that created the environment for atrocities at Abu Ghraib. He should make it clear that passing the buck to the lowest in the chain of command wasn't acceptable then and isn't acceptable now. He can come out as an advocate for the troops on the ground AND tough on those monsters in charge who are responsible for this in the first place. That's the approach he should take, I hope the people in his campaign support him in doing that.
