I find Conservative anger at the Wright flap deeply, deeply, DEEPLY ironic.
After years of publicly embracing religious zealots who say that liberals are destroying America from the inside, interracial coupling is a sin, New Orleans deserved its fate due to Mardi Gras, abortion doctors are deserving of death, gay marriage is on par with bestiality and necrophilia, the media is run by Christian-hating Jews, immodestly-dressed women are asking to be raped, Islam is on part with Satanism, the world is 5000 years old and evolutionists are going to hell, growing up in a gay household is tantamount to child abuse, feminists are all man-hating lesbians, stem-cell research is murder, Catholics are idol worshippers, etc, etc etc...

...now these same people are calling upon Obama to distance himself from "a hate-filled pastor?"

Unbe-fucking-lievable.

1. And don't forget the pat robertsons of the world exhorting their followers to pray
for the deaths of certain Supreme Court justices they don't like.

And how somebody like myself caused 9/11 ('cause I'm pro-choice and very liberal and feel like gays should not face discrimination). Yeah, falwell, it's all MY fault.

That's a hard one to get over - to this very day.

much less understand its meaning.

3. not ironic, but HYPOCRITICAL and that should be played for everything its worth, including
when it gets turned on us we need to be prepared to explain the WHY of any exceptions.

They are the ones who are Absolutists. We are the ones who are Relativists (and there's nothing WRONG with relativism). We accept variation; they don't - make 'em eat it!!!

Turn everything they say back on them like a mirror to show their deviations from their absolutes, i.e. their hypocrisy.

4. I believe I used "Irony" correctly.
I mean, it's not ray-ay-ain on your wedding day or anything, but it's close.

He was involved in a mailing scheme and something to do with Abramhoff??

How about the scheme to use the woman in the vegatative state -- what was her name? ---
from having her husband disconnect the feeding tube!! That was a Congressional issue ---
and brought Bush to interrrupt his vacation in TX to sign the legislation!!!

And, besides all that --- Wright has told us some truths we need to hear ---

8. All? Every last one? That's a bit absolute, isn't it?
And also not reflected in polling.

17. Shedding a light on their hypocrisy and enumerating their violations has never helped.
That's why we came up with the acronym IOIYAR. Because it's absolutely true. Imagine if Mark Foley were a Democrat. Tom DeLay. Larry Craig. Dennis Hastert. I'm tired or else I could name ten more Repubs who have done or said things that, if such acts had been committed by a Democrat, we'd never hear the end of it.

Come to think of it, Henry Hyde was doing worse than Clinton when Clinton got the BJ. How many people even know? How many people know that Gingrich served papers on his wife while she was recuperating from cancer surgery? Not many. But everyone knows about Chappaquidick.

IOIYAR.

20. Exactly! What makes more sense, God allowed 9-11 to happen because of gays...

or some religious figures are angry at the US for killing millions in the Middle East for their oil. Conservative war-mongers spout nothing but bloviated smoke and mirrors to cover up their own spiritual corruption.

22. It's OK to criticize America for those things
But not for war and racism. :sarcasm:

Right wingers always have a double standard. None of their principles are real. Their only principle is that they are always right and that they belong to a superior race/culture, and they are damned mad that those outside their race/culture don't acknowledge their superiority. That very superiority allows them, they think, to criticize others for doing the same things they do. They are allowed to do them, since they belong to that higher class of people.

It's the only idea I have for why they are so blatantly hypocritical.
