Obama aide: Bill Clinton like McCarthy
By MATT APUZZO, Associated Press Writer Sat Mar 22, 3:58 AM ET

SALEM, Ore. - Hillary Rodham Clinton's campaign is trying to clarify comments by former President Clinton that seemed to question Barack Obama's patriotism — comments an Obama aide likened to Joseph McCarthy.

Clinton's campaign said the comments were being misinterpreted and quickly posted a clarification on its Web site. But retired Air Force Gen. Merrill "Tony" McPeak said he was disappointed by the comments and compared them to those of McCarthy, the 1950s communist-hunting senator.

The former president made the comments while speculating about a general election between his wife and Republican John McCain.

McPeak, a former chief of staff of the Air Force and currently a co-chair of Obama's presidential campaign, said that sounded like McCarthy.

1. Yet another flub.
"I think it would be a great thing if we had an election year where you had two people who loved this country and were devoted to the interest of this country," said Clinton, who was speaking to a group of veterans Friday in Charlotte, N.C.

Uh, Bill? You WILL have two people who love this country and are devoted to its best interest. It's John McCain's judgement that's in question. Right?

Alright, let's watch them polish this turd.

7. He didn't say Clinton was like McCarthy; just that his comments reminded him of that time
when people's patriotism was being questioned. And I agree with him. The words are very clear. Clinton was saying Obama isn't patriotic.

10. God Damn America
Rich white devils, whites caused 9/11, yep that's very patriotic, bringing Americans together. Don't care what he says in speeches, actions, supporting this man for 20 years even while knowing he was full of bigotry and hatred for both whites and his country shows me his real convictions. Every time a Clinton doesn't call him a saint, his supporters cry foul. It's getting old and tiresome, Obamites protest about division while fostering it themselves. Kneel down and bow - OR ELSE - seems to be the prevalent message. No Thanks!

8. What Does The Obama Campaign Have Against Patriotism?
"I think it would be a great thing if we had an election year where you had two people who loved this country and were devoted to the interest of this country," said Clinton, who was speaking to a group of veterans Friday in Charlotte, N.C.. "And people could actually ask themselves who is right on these issues, instead of all this other stuff that always seems to intrude itself on our politics."

Where's the offense?
