Obama approaching 2million Donors!
https://donate.barackobama.com/page/smartproxy/my.barackobama.com/page/contribute_c/sofar08_lp/graphic <----Counter Link

Three weeks ago, the Obama campaign reported it had received contributions from its one millionth donor in 2008. Incredibly, that number has almost doubled in less than a month. Sometime today, the two millionth donor to Obama for America since January 1 will contribute to the campaign. (I emphasize donors not donations. Certainly many of these individuals have donated multiple times.) Over one million donors have given to Obama for America within the past month, and the rate of new donors shows no sign of slowing down.

6. I posted the other day about wanting to see what kind of donation jump he got from 'The Speech'...
I suspect it was massive and unprecedented. I practically ran to the computer to donate. I suspect it was a common experience.

The thing is this: After that speech, I knew 100% that I have never in my life wanted so strongly for any other candidate to become president.

I feel... like this is quite urgent and losing this opportunity as a better America is not something I can contemplate. It's just a feeling and, as such, I know I am open to being scorned for it.

I am a scientific person, but there is no science in judging people's hearts and minds. It is, and can only be, an exercise in intuition (which is, of itself, perhaps a more complex thing than we appreciate).

9. I felt the same way after seeing not only the speech but after
seeing how he handled the attack and the whole situation. It's been a long time since I fell in love with a candidate and I'm not in love now. But I am definitely in admiration.

32. Thank you for reminding me. I didn't fully appreciate him at the time.
I was soooo freaked out about the war that I was convinced we needed Wes Clark to win and end it. I felt his gravitas was the only possible way to put a halt to the war at that time and I think I am right.

I felt Dean was an impossible goal for various reasons, so I worked for Clark.

Thanks for reminding me of how important Dean was and is.

54. I think 2004 was the beta test
There is a new politcs being born. We are doing an end run around the media by reviving old-fashioned personal contact politics and melding it with the new communications possibilities of the Internet and related technologies. Obama still needs the Wall Street big boys, unfortunately, but I think the next step may be going beyond them as well.

27. If we're talking national candidates, I think that was Bobby.
I still feel like a widow of that campaign even though I was just a 12 yr old girl. But, my mom took on 2 precincts and we took care of them as if they were our own children. Walked our feet sore and I remember my mother laughing and talking and us eating cold dinners in the car so we wouldn't waste time going home to cook.

30. Wow. Great memories. I have similar ones of this guy...
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thomas_Joseph_Downey

"Downey made headlines in March 1985 for a confrontation with Representative Bob Dornan (R-CA) on the House floor. Downey asked Dornan about comments he had made calling Downey "a draft-dodging wimp". According to Downey, Dornan grabbed him by the collar and tie, said "It's good you're being protected by the sergeant-at-arms. If I saw you outside, it would be a different story," and threatened him "with some form of bodily harm". Dornan claimed he was merely straightening Downey's tie and refused to apologize for the incident or the derogatory comment. A Dornan aide said "It will be a cold day in hell before he gets an apology from Bob Dornan."<2>"
---------------------------------------------------------

He was our next door neighbor. Al Gore used to come over and play hoops in their little driveway. I think he was there a lot.

He became the youngest ever US congressman. I was 8 years old and we did "lit drops" for his campaign. Similar memories.

34. so happy to see that you have seen the light, friend.
we'll see if we can shine a little more on ya, so you can go all the way.
remember, he is 100% mo approved. any other little thing i can do for ya?
i know, i will tell you a story from the bus. i did a weekend bus trip to ohio, the weekend before the primary. there are a few politicos aboard, a state senator and a state rep, one new, one long time. they went out and knocked on doors like anyone else.
there were a group of ladies that were members of the black nurses association on my bus. i ended up sharing a hotel room with one, and, since there was no hotel bar, the closest place to get a drink was the the gas station on the other side of the big parking lot. it was set up a little, and we had to sort of hustle up a hill about 10' or so. it was a little slick, but we all made it, including a white haired short little lady who was probably at least in her 70's. we got some beer and vodka, and drank in our room. a couple of them were from barack's state senate district. they told me how much they admired him from those days as a politician, but also as a dad. he had dragged his little girls along to many an evening meeting, so that he could at least spend some time with him. they liked the girls, and liked barack, but they said they could never resist teasing him, tho, about his inadequacy at dealing with the "nappy hair" of his little girls.

we are all a little worried about pennsylvania. it is a little too far for a bus trip from illinois. we'll see. i stand ready to go. talking to obama supporters is the most fun you can have with your clothes on.

43. Before all this cr@p that Clinton stirred up, I didn't think I could vote for either.
Then, for a while, I just knew I couldn't vote for her. This is not the way I like to make decisions. :(

But, he has been consistently grounded. He's a lot of other things, I know, but for some reason, the kind of quietness that doesn't freak out over every little thing is really important to me this time.

lol

I hope you're keeping a journal or something. 'Citing times, mo. Very exciting.

33. And Clinton has 3 million in the bank???

WASHINGTON — Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton lived hand to mouth during the rush of presidential primaries while Democratic rival Sen. Barack Obama outspent her and put money in the bank.

New Federal Election Commission reports show Obama raised at a clip of nearly $2 million a day in February, an open spigot of money that left him with $30 million in the bank for March.

Clinton had her best fundraising month as well, at $34.5 million. But counting her debts to vendors she ended with a net $3 million. And that's not factoring the $5 million she lent her campaign and has not paid back.

64. I love it!
I donate once a month. The amount is small but that way, I can keep donating regularly all the way to November. Donating this way keeps the money flow consistent. Brilliant strategy.

69. Can someone post Mcian's and Hils number to contrast this?
Hill is actually doing better then the recent norm for presidential campaigns but Mcain has got to be hovering in the 30K-50K range at best.

I think this can be a powerful talking point, showing the contrast between the PAC and large donor reliant Repukes and Dems who are financing this campaign via the people.

And that wonderful young man from Hawaii.

$90,000 in college debt. That is a crime. An abrogation of the duty of this country to its citizens and to itself.

And the DNC should take note that these SAME donors can come back again for the GE and donate to help the Democratic party wage a massive campaign against McCain and the repukes this fall.

Freeze the counter just short of 2 million for a couple days. That's some pretty brilliant social engineering skills.

Heh, it worked with me!
